Go To

iGet Pranky is the 3rd episode in the 4th season of iCarly.

Carly admits she's never pulled a prank on anyone, so she enlists Spencer's help to prank Sam and Freddie; however, he starts getting into pranks so much he begins messing up their lives.

Tropes:

  • Didn't Think This Through: Spencer's garlic powder prank was meant to make his classmates' heads smell funny; he didn't know it would sting their eyes out.
  • Eye Scream: Spencer's prank got garlic powder in his fellow students' eyes, which made them cry and got them sent to the nurse.
  • Gone Horribly Right:
    • Carly tries to get Spencer out of his "no-pranking" attitude in order to get back at Sam and Freddie. This works all too well, as his contribution to Carly's prank makes him get back into his pranking enthusiasm.
    • When Carly tries to convince Spencer to abandon his pranking, she brings back some of his old high school classmates to remind him why he stopped. They ensure Spencer re-learns his lesson by beating him up.
  • Green Around the Gills: One of Spencer's pranks involves this. He sent T-Bo a bottle of glow-in-the-Dark face cream which would make a person's face look sickly green in lowlight. T-Bo instead gives it to his friend Lucas, which works on him. And since Lucas has dry patches and a rather out of shape face, this makes him look very sickly as a result.
  • Harmless Electrocution: Played with. Spencer has a shock pen that he tricks Carly into using, which only shocks her a little bit. However, an amused Sam decides to use it on Freddie by shocking him in the neck. This knocks him out and prompts Carly to go check his pulse.
  • Hypocrite: Sam tells Carly that her prank of putting a dead fish in Gibby's locker was lame. However, back in "iKiss", she did the same thing to Freddie.
  • It's All My Fault: Carly feels this way after showing No Sympathy towards Spencer's story and talking him into helping her prank Freddie and Sam, hence addicting him back into pranking.
  • Jump Scare: One of Spencer's pranks is causing a roaring monster face to appear in Carly's bedroom mirror spooking her.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Spencer pulled a massive prank back in his time at school on a group of students, which caused severe eye damage to them. At the end of the episode, Carly brings back this group to tell Spencer that pranking is wrong. Said group decides to beat Spencer up as payback.
  • Out-Gambitted: The iCarlys plot to prank Spencer by having him pick up a dollar, then having Gibby drop on Spencer. However, Spencer knew of the prank, and thought right past them by using a broom and bubble gum to get the dollar.
  • Poke the Poodle: When Sam and Freddie tell Carly it's lame that she hasn't pulled one prank on her life, she attempts one to prove them wrong. Her attempt? Putting a dead fish in Gibby's locker. Sam and Freddie are not impressed by this, especially since an excited Gibby decides to eat this fish.
  • Prank Gone Too Far: Back when Spencer was in the ninth grade, he dumped 200 pounds of garlic powder on his classmates' heads in an attempt to make them smell weird; unfortunately, the garlic power results in severe eye irritation, sending them to the emergency room, and he resolved never to prank again since then.
  • Pranking Montage: One where Spencer ends up pranking nonstop, set to "The Joke is On You".
  • Shout-Out: Twice to Drake & Josh:
    • In the scene after the theme song as Carly watches TV, the audio is that of the final scene of "Megan's Revenge" when Megan was talking (Cosgrove's other role). Carly laments that even she's a good prankster.
    • When Spencer is watching TV after the Pranking Montage, the audio is that of "The Storm" when Crazy Steve (Trainor's other role) screams, "Come on, Dora! You're the one with the map!" Carly lampshades this by saying, "I'm turning you off!".
  • A Taste Of His Own Medicine: The iCarlys try to use this tactic by pranking Spencer in order to have him get over his obsession with pranks. However, Spencer quickly realizes what they are trying to do, and he manages to go around it.
  • Too Much Information: Gibby mentions to Sam and Freddie how because of a prank Spencer pulled on him that involved a toilet spraying water on him, he’s afraid to pee in restrooms. He adds that he's started using catheters. This grosses the two out and they tell him to stop.
  • Vorpal Pillow: Discussed. Carly tells Spencer that she wants him to sign a contract that makes him never pull a prank again. And when he asks what would happen if he doesn't sign it, she replies that she'll come into his at night and put a pillow over his face until he stops kicking. Spencer points out that this is pretty dark material.
