Recap / I Carly S 03 Ep 05 I Have My Principals

Go To

iHave My Principals is the 5th episode in the 3rd season of iCarly.

Principal Franklin asks to appear on iCarly in honor of his daughter's birthday, but his actions cause him to get fired and Mr. Howard and Ms. Briggs take his place, issuing horrible rules at school. Wanting Principal Franklin back, Carly, Sam and Freddie organize an uprising among the students.

Meanwhile, Spencer hires a professional rodeo champion to teach him how to ride a mechanical bull.

Tropes:

  • Big Brother Is Watching: Ms. Briggs and Mr. Howard use the intercom to hear every spoken-out-loud word their students say after they take control of the school and punish them if it's something they don't like.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": When many students at the Groovy Smoothie are complaining like mad about their new school rules, Sam yells "QUIET!" for a very long time. This is so long and so loud that it causes even Carly and Freddie to cover their ears until she stops.
  • Birthday Episode: The first part of the episode revolves around the birthday of Principal Franklin's daughter Emily, and he requests to appear on iCarly so he can wish her happy birthday.
  • Buffy Speak: Mr. Howard gives Gibby detention for "being too Gibby."
  • Call-Back:
    • The events of "iThink They Kissed" were mentioned, and even the giant pants Spencer made return.
    • When Sam and Freddie hear from Principal Franklin that he's been fired, this shocks the two and they yell, "What?! Why!?" This is the exact same response the two had back in "iCook," when they found out that Ricky Flame is quitting his culinary career.
Sam: Dude, we gotta stop doing that.
  • The Cavalry: Before the superintendent calls out Carly and Freddie, he blows the whistle for the Ridgeway football team to rush in and force the superintendent to ride on Spencer's mechanical bull.
  • Cerebus Syndrome: Within the episode itself; after Principal Franklin gets fired and Ms. Briggs/Mr. Howard hired to replace him, the episode becomes much darker and more serious in tone.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The mechanical bull that Spencer had been practicing on is used as part of the mayhem at school. Some school football players pick up the superintendent and place him on top of it, forcing him to ride it and almost fall off.
  • Chew-Out Fake-Out: At the end, Principal Franklin begins to berate the kids for misbehaving... until the inspector leaves. Then he just grins and says, "I love you guys."
  • Disappointed in You: Principal Franklin says this word for word to everyone for going wild when he specifically said that he didn't want to play games and tells everyone to get to class.
Principal Franklin: Everybody calm down right now! I am very disappointed in you, kids.
Carly: We just wanted to show superintendent Goreman that you were a better principal than...
Principal Franklin: I told you I didn't want to play games. Now all of you, get to class right now.
  • I Warned You: When Sam badmouths the new rules and the dress code at school, Carly and Freddie try to warn her that she's not allowed to talk about it. Sam scoffs at this, but then the intercom cracks on, with Ms. Briggs ordering Sam to come to the principal's office because she heard her. Carly and Freddie immediately give her "We told you so" looks.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: With the cast and the whole school revolting against Briggs and Howard's regime aside, this whole episode can be seen as one big Catharsis Factor for everyone getting revenge against the two charlatans for tormenting them. Doubles as a CMOA for the cast and everyone involved.
  • Rule of Three: Carly asks, "Why are we in trouble?!" three times before Principal Franklin explains why the iCarlys have been summoned by him.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: After seeing Briggs and Howard act nasty throughout this episode, it is immensely cathartic to see the superintendent send them away, even after they were humiliated by the school's uprising.
  • Vomit Indiscretion Shot: While Mr. Howard is co-principal, he gets annoyed at Gibby's antics, and gives him triple-detention. This causes Gibby to run to the nearest trash can to vomit.
