Recap / I Carly S 01 Ep 03 I Dream Of Dance

Go To

iDream of Dance is the third episode in the first season of iCarly.

Inspired by Miss Briggs' bad dancing, Carly and Sam invite their viewers to send in dance videos they can display on the web show. But when they get over 3,000 videos which is too much to watch before the next show, they try watching 500 each night, but by doing so, they eventually fall asleep and dream themselves busting a move of their own.

Meanwhile, Spencer tries to find his missing bike helmet.

Tropes:

  • Blowing a Raspberry: In Freddie's dream, a disgusted Carly reacts to Zeke's creepy flirting with this trope.
  • Collective Groan: Carly, Sam, and Freddie voice several of these while watching several dance videos late into the night. Spencer even comments upon such.
Spencer: Hey, what are you guys "UHHHH"-ing about?
  • Dream Episode: Carly, Sam, and Freddie fall asleep while watching dance videos and dream themselves doing their own dances.
  • Foot Popping: In Freddie's dream, Carly does this as she hugs him. The soundtrack even indicates this with a "ding" sound effect.
  • Hired for Their Looks: Carly and Sam give an immediate pass for Zeke and choose to have him on their show for this reason. To be fair though, he was easily the best dancer of the ones viewers saw so it's not like he took the spot of someone more deserving.
  • Humiliation Conga: Sam's dream counts, as she gets tortured and forced to dance to Scottish bagpipe music and she doesn't have any control over her own body.
  • Indulgent Fantasy Segue: Freddie's dream counts, as he beats up Zeke, who is depicted as the school bully and wins over Carly.
  • Mood Whiplash: In Freddie's dream, as soon as his punk-like dancing with his new goons ends, the surroundings around him immediately change from a bright orange to a peaceful blue as Carly runs up to him, now attracted to him. In addition, the music goes from rock to upbeat jazz.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: When Freddie snarks on Sam’s "classiness" by reminding her that she once cleaned her ear out with a cell phone antenna, she informs him that she used HIS cell phone, much to his shock. Also, when Freddie asks where his straw went, Sam appears, using it to clean her ear out again. She then puts the straw back in Freddie’s beverage, earwax part first.
  • "Not Wearing Pants" Dream: At the end of Sam's dream Gibby shows up in his underwear, apparently late for a test. She then tells him to get out of her dream.
  • Shout-Out: In Freddie's dream, his dance with his new friends after beating Zeke is clearly inspired from Michael Jackson's dance in "Beat It".
