iPilot is the pilot episode of iCarly.
When Carly Shay and her best friend Sam Puckett are put in charge of the school's talent show auditions, the girls discover some of the students auditioning have weird talents, but Miss Briggs refuses to let them be in. But with a little help from their nerdy friend Freddie Benson, the auditions eventually turn into their own comedy webshow.
Tropes:
- Actually Pretty Funny: In the beginning of the episode, Principal Franklin is seen laughing at a copy of the photo docked image of Ms. Briggs that Carly was handing out. Said photo shows Ms. Briggs' head photo shopped onto the body of a rhino. When Ms. Briggs herself enters the room, Principal Franklin quickly shuts up. Though, he can’t help cracking up about it when chewing out Carly, much to Ms. Briggs' outrage.
- Blatant Lies: Sam insisting to Carly that she's a nice person... while assaulting a random kid.Carly: Why are you [my best friend]?Sam: Because I'm a lovable person! (pushes kid into lockers, causing him to fall over)
- For Want Of A Nail: If Freddie hadn't recorded Carly and Sam making fun of Ms. Briggs and putting it online, this wouldn't have resulted in the Wham Line below which inspired them to create iCarly.
- Hope Spot:
- When Freddie starts saying that the video will be removed, Carly and Sam start to sigh in relief, only to be outraged when Freddie finishes with "...tomorrow morning."
- When Carly & Sam see the embarrassing video of them was put on SplashFace, Carly calms down when Sam tells her only 27 people watched it. She quickly realizes Sam misread the view count, it said 27K, which meant 27 thousand.
- Ironic Echo: As they are reviewing one talent show contestant, he does a subpar skit that repeatedly uses the words "I don’t know." Carly and Sam do a fake applause. And when he leaves, they ask each other what they thought of his performance, and they respond by reciting the quote that he frequently used.
- "It" Is Dehumanizing: When Freddie finds out that Carly brought Sam along for talent show hosting, he furiously refers to the latter as "that thing." Sam is briefly outraged by this.
- Jerkass Has a Point:
- Ms. Briggs was understandably furious when Carly sent out flyers of her head on an animal’s body. She was also outraged when Principal Franklin cracked up laughing about it in front of her.
- Even if it was all a misunderstanding, she was understandably livid when a video of Carly and Sam making fun of her pointy breasts was posted on SplashFace for the world to see.
- Sam dragging Freddie into the apartment was rude, but she had every right to be mad at him and want him in the apartment right away to demand an explanation.
- Mismeasurement: Sam reads the view count on the Splash Face video as 27 views before seeing that it was actually 27,000 views.
- Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Ms. Briggs refuses to let Carly and Sam’s picks for the talent show perform at the event, calling them useless. This leads the two girls to showing their picks on their own webshow, and the rest is history.
- Oh, Crap!: This is Carly's reaction when she sees that the video Freddie uploaded for the talent show is actually of her and Sam making fun of Ms. Briggs' boobs. She points out to Sam that because it is on Splashface, anyone can view it, especially Ms. Briggs.
- Suddenly Shouting: Sam tries to reassure Carly that the video uploaded has only 27 views on it. Carly relaxes, but then takes a another look at 27K views, which she suddenly shouts that it actually means 27,000!Carly: (calmly) Sam?Sam: Yeah?Carly: THAT'S TWENTY-SEVEN THOUSAND!!!
- Wham Line: The following comment which inspires the creation of iCarly.Carly and Sam, you chicks are hilarious! When's your next show?
