Barney tries to get Ted out on the town in order to distract himself from what Quinn is doing over at the Lusty Leopard. Lily has an erotic dream about someone, and Marshall tries to figure out who.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Another Story for Another Time: In addition to the episode following up on a previous case of this from "The Mermaid Theory", Ted lampshades his tendency toward this and then subverts it:
Security Guard: This isn't my whole life. I'm in a band. And we're gonna make it.
Ted: And, kids, they did make it. But I'll get to that later. ...You know what, I'm probably not going to get to that later. They had one song, it didn't suck, the end.
  • Forgotten Aesop: Remember how Barney and Quinn spent an episode telling the gang they should be ashamed of judging Quinn for being a stripper? Here Barney spends the episode freaking out over his girlfriend being a stripper.
  • Naked People Are Funny: Ted realizes that now that he's finally alone in his apartment it means he's open to many advantages like walking around the place naked. The trope comes into play when he spills hot soup on himself, which also is revisited in a small clip show in the "Band or DJ" episode.
  • The Reveal: This episode mainly serves to explain why Ted was in a green dress.
  • Take That Me: The show makes fun of its tendency to do Another Story for Another Time.
  • Title Drop: Kind of a given, due to The Reveal, but:
    Ted: Okay... now we're even!
