Recap / Hercules The Legendary Journeys S 6 E 5 Hercules Tramps And Thieves

Go To

Hercules and Autolycus find themselves together on a trip to Thracia to visit Greek's first bank. The trip soon becomes complicated by two factors. The first is Autolycus running into his ex-wife/ex-partner Luscious Deluxe. The second is that the bank ends up being robbed and all signs point to Autolycus...even though he claims to have not done it.

Tropes for this episode:

  • And This Is for...: Upon greeting him, Luscious immediately decks Autolycus and says that was for being left to rot in prison.
  • Any Last Words?: The Sheriff asks Autolycus if he has any. Autolycus proceeds to list every single word he can think of in alphabetical order. He ends up boring the Sheriff and crowd so much that they start falling asleep.
  • Beware the Silly Ones: For all his goofiness, Klunter demonstrates some legitimate fighting abilities when helping out Hercules and Luscious.
  • The Bro Code: While Hercules is never one to casually fool around with women, anyway, he also turns down Luscious because she's the ex-wife of a friend of his. While he admits the prospect is certainly tempting, he says it's just inappropriate.
  • Celibate Hero: Hercules ignores Luscious's overtures. She's mainly coming on to him as a way to get back at Autolycus, but she still finds this rather annoying.
Luscious: All right, enough of the gentleman routine. You can't just walk around looking like you and play hard to get. It's false advertising.
  • Cut Lex Luthor a Check: When Autolycus learns about the potential to earn money legally through bank ventures like interest and loans, Hercules suggests that may be his calling.
  • Divorce Is Temporary: Autolycus and Luscious rekindle their feelings for each other, though the episode ends without them officially getting together, leaving it a bit ambiguous.
  • End-of-Series Awareness: Hercules gives a small smile to the club patrons as he leaves. As this was the last episode filmed with the patrons being various staff members, it acts in a sense of Kevin Sorbo saying goodbye to his coworkers.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Luscious is fine with letting Autolycus rot in prison, but she can't let him get executed. Hercules points out that she, like Autolycus, is basically a good person at heart.
  • Exact Words: While traveling together, Hercules makes Autolycus promise not to rob the bank. Autolycus then pickpockets a guy once Herc is out of sight, noting he only promised it was the bank he'd spare.
  • Happily Married: Autolycus reflects that he and Luscious were actually very happy together before he left her implicated in one of his thefts.
  • Heroic Wannabe: Klunter desperately wants to be Hercules's sidekick.
  • Honor Before Reason: Autolycus takes the fall for the bank robbery and faces being hanged out of regret for previously leaving Luscious to rot in prison for one of his solo jobs.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Autolycus vows to have his execution bravely. He immediately bursts into tears upon seeing the noose.
  • Last Request: Attempting to stall while Hercules finds the real thief, Autolycus asks for one of these in the form of a fresh ripe peach. The executioner notes peaches are completely out of season, so Autolycus agrees to wait. He nearly gets hanged by the angry mob for that.
  • Lying Finger Cross: When making Autolycus promise not to rob the bank, Hercules makes sure to check for this. Autolycus is offended, saying that would be beneath his standards.
  • Maybe Ever After:
Autolycus: When you kissed me before in your dressing room, did you mean that, or was that just part of your act?
Luscious: Guess you'll just have to stick around and find out.
  • My Greatest Failure: When they were married, Autolycus and Luscious vowed never to rat on each other, as well as always carried an item belonging to the other for good luck. On a solo job, Autolycus accidentally left behind her item, which implicated her in the theft. Autolycus never said a word and, though she honored their pact, she divorced him on her way to prison. Autolycus admits he always felt bad about that and wants to make up for it, which is part of why he takes the fall for her bank robbery.
  • Noodle Incident: As the two head into town, they discuss Salmoneus getting into more legal trouble.
Hercules: That massage parlor bust was a real drag.
  • Not Me This Time: The bank gets robbed and the evidence points to Autolycus, but it's genuinely not his fault.
  • Not So Above It All: Even a chaste hero like Hercules admits it's not easy to turn down a knockout like Luscious.
  • Oh, Crap!: Autolycus when the announcer reveals the name of the club's headliner.
  • Operation: Jealousy: Since she can't go through with letting Autolycus get executed, Luscious tries to get back at him by throwing herself at Hercules. It doesn't work, as Herc knows what her game is.
  • The Power of Friendship: Hercules immediately doubts that Autolycus robbed the bank because of the promise he made. The Sheriff is dubious, but he admits that Herc's loyalty to a friend is certainly commendable.
  • Punny Name: The club Luscious works at is called Club Nymph-O-Mania.
  • Resolved Noodle Incident: Autolycus had mentioned back in "My Fair Cupcake" that he had only been in love one other time and that that didn't work out. Here, we meet his ex-wife and learn the circumstances of their divorce.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: After Autolycus first mentions leaving Luscious to take the fall for a crime he committed.
Hercules: Well, good to see chivalry is not dead.
Autolycus: Who's that? A friend of yours?
  • Shout-Out: After deliberately giving Klunter bad advice on getting in Hercules's good graces, Autolycus remarks, "Ain't I a stinker?"
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Once he's gotten the money back, Hercules gets Autolycus out of this by claiming the robbery was just a way to test the bank's security and fill in any holes to keep the people's money safe. Autolycus has this reaction, and the locals believe it, so he's safe.
  • Wham Line: "That's no lady. That's my wife."
