Just One Of The Puppies

Renaldo calls Manny- his dog Galoshes just had a litter of puppies, and he needs Manny to build a doghouse for them. This should be an easy job… but then one of the puppies goes missing.

Tropes in “Just One Of The Puppies” include:

  • Blinded by the Light: Mr. Lopart is briefly blinded by the repeated flashes of light emitted by the photo booth in his store, although he gets over it in about a second.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: For context, Squeeze had earlier tried to lure a missing puppy to her by making fake dog barks.
Renaldo: You can come visit whenever you like.
    Squeeze: (Fake barking)
    Squeeze: I mean (laughs) Yeah!
  • I've Heard of That — What Is It?:
Pat: Ooh, a photo booth! What’s a photo booth?
  • Snap Back: The fancy new photo booth Mr. Lopart installed in his store is gone by the very next episode.

Pet Picnic

Manny and the tools take Fixit to the park for Sheet Rock Hills’s first annual pet picnic- but a rainstorm leaves everyone who attended the picnic stuck in the community center with nothing to do but wait.

”Pet Picnic” provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Mr. Lopart once again calls Fixit “Frisket”.
  • Alliterative Title: Pet Picnic.
  • Amplified Animal Aptitude: Some of the animal’s “talents” are these- Patches’ harmonica-playing “skills”, while still atrocious, are much, much better than you could expect from an actual cat, and Milton’s whistling sounds blatantly human.
  • The Bus Came Back: Maurice the chameleon returns, after having been absent since “Squeeze Makes A Promise”.
  • Brick Joke: Early in the episode, Mr. Lopart has a play tunnel and, in trying to show Fluffy that it’s fun, climbs inside it himself and ends up rolling away. Later, he shows up at the picnic with the tunnel, and has this to say about it:
Mr. Lopart: It’s not for people, though. Trust me.
  • Continuity Cavalcade: The pets at the park for the pet picnic form this: We see Milton, Estrella, Freckles, Galoshes, Chulo, Patches, Carlos, and Maurice.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Once again, Mr. Lopart accidentally calls Fixit “Frisket”.
    • The community center still has that Aztec art on its walls.
    • While the pet picnic’s attendees wonder what they can do while stuck in the community center, Felipe suggests they have a sing-along and starts singing “De Colores”.
    • Carlos’s “talent” is dancing to that same “cha-cha-cha” song Mr. Lopart was trying to dance to in “Dario Dance”.
  • Covered in Gunge: Pat ends up splattered with egg yolk after he falls into a box of eggs meant for an egg-and-spoon race.
  • Hollywood Chameleon: Maurice once again acts like this; a scene is based on Pat repeatedly believing he’s talking to Maurice when in fact he’s speaking into empty air.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Felipe, when he suggests they have a sing-along in the community center to pass the time.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: When Pat thinks they should hold the egg-and-spoon race in the community center, and Manny says it’s not a good idea.:
Pat: We’ll be really, really careful.
(Falls into the box of eggs)
    Turner: But not careful enough.
  • I've Heard of That — What Is It?: When Maurice “disappears”:
Kelly: He’s right there, Pat. He’s camouflaged.
Pat (as if he understands): Camouflaged. (beat) What’s camouflaged?
  • Knew It All Along:
Pat (to an empty spot on the ground where he thinks Maurice is): Come on, Maurice, let’s go.
    Turner: He already went.
    Pat: I knew that!
  • Rain, Rain, Go Away: The pet picnic ends up having to be canceled due to rain; while the picnic’s attendees are sheltering from the storm in the community center, they try to think of what they can do, and ends up having the brilliant idea of holding a pet talent contest.
  • Silly Animal Sound: In an in-universe example, Mrs. Bouffant’s pet bird is able to near-perfectly mimic the sound of a dog barking.
  • Stock Animal Diet: At one point, Leela has Squeeze feed Freckles the bunny a carrot.
  • Talent Contest: While waiting in the community center for a rainstorm to stop, the attendees of the pet picnic end up coming up with the idea to hold one for their pets, whose “talents” consist of: “Singing” (Fluffy), walking on his hind legs (Chulo), jumping really high (Freckles), dancing the cha-cha (Carlos), balancing a ball on her nose (Fixit), doing an excellent dog impression (Mrs. Bouffant’s pet bird), “playing” the harmonica (Patches), and whistling (Milton).
