The Tools’ New Team

Manny takes the tools to enjoy a hike through the desert, but when they return from their walk they find that the grille on Manny’s truck has broken unexpectedly- and it’s broken in a way that the tools just aren’t equipped to fix. Manny drives to an old service station in search of repairs- and ends up meeting a whole new team of talking tools.

Contains examples of:

  • Accent Upon The Wrong Syllable: All of Hank’s tools pronounce “Florida” as “FlorEEda”.
  • Behind the Black: Turner at one point jumps in and even lies down in a toolbox containing Junior, and somehow fails to notice him until he becomes visible to the audience.
  • Brick Joke: At the beginning of the special, Mr. Lopart’s car breaks down due to him overloading it with Lots of Luggage. Much later, Manny arrives at Gary’s garage with the automotive tools in tow… and Mr. Lopart is there, impatiently waiting for his car to be repaired.
  • Call-Back: Gary and his garage make a return, with Hank’s tools deciding to work with Gary now that Hank’s retired.
  • Easily Embarrassed Youngster: Junior has shades of this, being embarrassed when Lefty mentions his “nap box”.
  • Extra-Long Episode: It’s a single 22-minute story, while most Handy Manny episodes are Two Shorts.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Turner somehow manages to stand and even lie down in Junior’s toolbox without realizing he's there. This also doubles as a case of Behind the Black, as Turner only notices Junior when the latter stands up and becomes visible to the audience.
  • I've Heard of That — What Is It?: Pat, in a new intellectual low for him, does this with the concept of “a hike”.
  • The Last Straw: When Mr. Lopart adds one last small bag to the massive pile of luggage on and in his car, the whole pile collapses, and all four tires on his car blow out.
  • Lots of Luggage: Mr. Lopart completely overloads his car with bags upon bags of luggage… for a one-day fishing trip.
  • Miniscule Rocking: "Time For Fun" is almost exactly one minute long.
  • Motion Blur: Zip is introduced as a blue blur that darts around Hank’s garage, before he stops and allows the audience (and Manny’s tools) to see what he actually looks like.
  • Musical Episode: Manny and the tools sing “Time For Fun” (aka "Going On A Hike") while going on a hike.
  • Noisy Nature / Stock Sound Effects: The exact same red-tailed hawk cry plays over at least three different shots of desert wilderness.
  • Offscreen Crash: A tire Roland accidentally sends rolling causes one.
  • Stock Rhymes: “Time For Fun” rhymes “sun” with “fun”.
    We’re going on a hike
    We’re walking in the sun
We love nothing more than to be outdoors
And this is our time for fun
