A Night With Abuelito

When a snowstorm forces Manny and the tools to stay the night at Abuelito’s house, they end up having to contend with the fact that Manny’s grandfather is a VERY loud sleeper.

Tropes in “A Night With Abuelito” include:

  • Accent On The Wrong Syllable: Pat persistently pronounces “marshmallows” as “marsh-a-mallows”.
  • Cold Snap: A snowstorm leads to Manny and the tools being Snowed-In with Abuelito.
  • Here We Go Again!: At the end of the episode, the tools have soundproofed Abuelito’s room and are finally able to get some sleep… and then Felipe starts snoring up a storm.
  • Loud Sleeper Gag: Apparently, Abuelito snores, loudly enough to keep Manny and the tools from sleeping. The ending of the episode shows that Felipe also snores.
  • Scooby Stack: Manny and the tools do this when peeking into Abuelito’s bedroom; this is semi-justified by their respective heights.
  • Snowed-In: Manny and the tools end up having to spend a night at Abuelito’s house after a snowstorm hits while they’re helping him unpack boxes; the conflict of the episode revolves around Abuleito being a very loud sleeper.
  • Standard Snippet: Some stock classical “sleeping” music can be heard once the tools have finally dealt with Abuelito’s snoring.
  • We Sell Everything: For some reason, Kelly’s hardware store has earmuffs… in Rusty’s size, no less.

Canine Case

While out for a walk, Manny and the tools encounter Mrs. Portillo and Officer Pete, looking for Mrs. Portillo’s missing chihuahua. Of course, they volunteer to help search, and, led by Dusty’s detective skills, they follow various clues on a trail that leads them all across town.

”Canine Case” provides examples of:

  • Alliterative Title: Canine Case.
  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: When the tools start smelling a very particular scent:
Dusty: It’s a barbeque! Do you know what this means?
    Pat: Lunch?
  • Audible Gleam:
    • The badge Officer Pete gives to Dusty when he names her an honorary detective emits one after he affixes it to the toolbox.
    • One shines on the latch of Mrs. Portillo’s gate after Manny and the tools fix it.
  • Blatant Lies: Mr. Lopart once again insists on bragging about strength he does not have.
Mr. Lopart: We Loparts have arms of steel.
  • Call-Back: The whole episode is one big one to “Detective Dusty”; Dusty is once again solving a mystery, and said mystery even involves Mrs. Portillo and her pet chihuahua Carlos.
  • Continuity Nod: When the tools go to Kelly’s store, the cardboard box Fluffy is under is the same box that contained the camping lanterns Manny used in “Blackout On The Block”.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: One happens after it briefly seems like Carlos has gone missing again, but it turns out that he’s just on the other side of Mrs. Portillo’s newly-fixed fence gate.
  • Mystery Episode: Manny and the tools end up helping Mrs. Portillo and Officer Pete search for a missing Carlos, who disappeared from Mrs. Portillo’s backyard.
  • I've Heard of That — What Is It?: When Mr. Ayala says that one of the salchichas (hot dogs) he made on his barbeque has vanished.
Pat: Oh no. First a missing dog, then a missing salchicha! (beat) What’s a salchicha?
  • Tropey, Come Home: Mrs. Portillo’s dog Carlos has gone missing, and Manny and the tools spend most of the episode searching for him- after tracking various clues all across town, they end up finding him playing with the Lees’ dog.
