Haunted Clock Tower

A strange, unearthly moaning has begun to emanate from the clock tower at Sheet Rock Hills’ city hall, leaving Mayor Rosa convinced that it’s haunted… but, on the off chance that the sound is caused by some sort of mechanical problem, she sends Manny to look at the clock’s works.

Tropes in “Haunted Clock Tower” include:

  • Arc Words: “Logical explanation”.
  • Audible Gleam: The clock tower’s window emits one after Manny fixes it.
  • Call-Back:
    • Once again, Manny and the tools are going to City Hall to fix a problem with the clock tower.
    • When the tools decide to search for the ghost, Dusty puts her detective skills into employment.
  • Clockworks Area: Most of the episode is spent inside the clock tower in City Hall.
  • Compartment Shot: One happens when Rusty lifts the lid off a trash can.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: One happens when Turner says that he knew there was no ghost at the end of the episode. Felipe, as a Running Gag, had been sneaking up behind Turner and loudly shouting “BOO!” whenever he made such an assertion… which Turner was able to anticipate, quickly turning around and yelling “BOO!” at Felipe.
  • Ghostly Wail: Mayor Rosa thinks she hears these emanating from the clock tower, although the actual source of the moaning turns out to be the wind whistling through a broken window.
  • It's Quiet… Too Quiet:
Squeeze: Wow. It’s pretty quiet up here.
    Felipe: Too quiet.
  • I've Heard of That — What Is It?:
Pat: Yes, of course there’s a logical reason. (beat) What’s logical?
  • Lampshade Wearing: In the opening of the episode, while Manny and the other tools are working on fixing Kelly’s lamp, Pat manages to get the lampshade stuck on his head.
  • Later-Installment Weirdness: Starting this episode, whenever Manny answers a call, he says the "You break it" part, while the tools finish with the "we fix it" part.
  • Literal-Minded: Pat, twice in quick succession.
Kelly: I see you’ve finished my lamp.
Manny: Si. It’s rewired, and now it works like a charm.
Pat: A charm? I thought it worked like a lamp.
Kelly: …but it sounds like Mayor Rosa wants you to go over there and shed some light on the situation.
Pat: Okay, but we might need to borrow your lamp again.
  • Paranormal Episode: The plot revolves around a spooky noise leaving Mayor Rosa convinced that the big clock in City Hall is haunted; as it turns out the source of the Ghostly Wailing was actually just the wind whistling through a broken window.
  • Percussive Maintenance: Mr. Lopart tries to get his automatic bike pump to work by kicking it; this causes said bike pump to overload and make the tire it was attached to explode.
  • Quaking with Fear: At one point, Dusty hears an eerie rattling noise which she thinks is coming from the ghost… until she sees Rusty and realizes it’s just the sound of him shaking with fear.
  • Running Gag: Felipe sneaking up behind Turner and shouting “BOO!” whenever Turner tries to insist that there’s no such thing as ghosts.
  • Slippery Skid: While in the clock tower, Pat ends up slipping on a puddle of oil and falling in such a way that he gets a nearby spring wrapped around him.
  • Spring Coil: Pat ends up getting a spring stuck around him; while it doesn’t send him bouncing around the clock tower, it does oscillate up and down when he tries to move and cause him to fall over.

Oscar’s House Of 18 Smoothies

Oscar’s new smoothie shop, called Oscar’s House Of 18 Smoothies, is set to have its grand opening, until he drops a blender and cracks the serving counter. This is nothing Manny can’t fix but, while the tools are there, the notice a far weirder problem- apparently, Oscar miscounted, and so his shop only sells 17 different flavors of smoothie.

”Oscar’s House Of 18 Smoothies” includes:

  • Animal Reaction Shot: Fluffy can be seen rolling her eyes at Mr. Lopart’s latest pratfall.
  • Are You Pondering What I'm Pondering?: When Stretch realizes that the mess Pat made of Oscar’s kitchen might actually be the key to creating an 18th smoothie flavor:
Stretch: Pat, are you thinking what I’m thinking?
Pat: That you wish you were eating peanut butter?
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    Kelly: Sorry, Manny, I don’t have a hinge… I have 15 hinges.
  • Bizarre Taste in Food: The tools all demonstrate this when trying to come up with an 18th smoothie flavor for Oscar- Stretch thinks a hot dog smoothie would be a good idea, Felipe wants a churro smoothie, Rusty wants a chicken noodle soup smoothie, and Pat ups the absurdity by thinking that a toothpaste smoothie would be a good idea.
  • Chekhov's Gag: Early in the episode, Mr. Lopart is sent wildly rolling around Sheet Rock Hills on an out-of-control swivel chair (It Makes Sense in Context); this is forgotten about until near the end, when he rolls straight into Oscar’s kitchen, crashes into the splattered mess Pat had made there, gets some of it in his mouth, and notices that it tastes good, allowing the tools to finally settle on what Oscar’s 18th smoothie flavor should be.
  • Covered in Gunge: Mr. Lopart, after crashing into Oscar’s shop, gets covered in a mix of peanut butter and mushed banana (that wasn’t actually his fault; the mess was already there courtesy of Pat). A little of it gets in his mouth, and, apparently, it actually tastes really good!
  • Desperate Object Catch: This happens at one point, with the tools scrambling to catch eggs Pat had knocked out of Oscar’s refrigerator before they hit the ground and shatter.
  • Failed a Spot Check: In the entire process of creating “Oscar’s House Of 18 Smoothies”, Oscar somehow failed to notice he had only 17 smoothie flavors.
  • Fun with Homophones: In the opening of the episode, Manny and the tools are fixing an xylophone… and Pat asks Manny how you’re supposed to call people on it. (Xylophone, geddit?).
  • Location Title: The episode is named after Oscar’s new smoothie shop.
  • Pepper Sneeze: While searching in Oscar’s cupboards for possible smoothie ingredients (long story), Pat takes a whiff of a pepper shaker and instantly has a Sneeze Of Doom.
  • Simple Solution Won't Work: Upon discovering that Oscar only has 17 smoothie flavors, the first thing the tools suggest is that he just change the name of his shop to “Oscar’s House Of 17 Smoothies”. Unfortunately, he can’t, as he’s already created loads of merchandise (in the form of cheap t-shirts) and advertising materials with the shop’s logo- a nice, big “18” over a smoothie cup- on them.
  • Sneeze of Doom: While searching in Oscar’s cupboards, Pat gets a whiff of pepper, and lets out a sneeze so forceful it makes him bang around in the cupboard and spill quite a few jars onto the floor below.
  • Swivel-Chair Antics: A heaping dose of Artistic License – Physics sends Mr. Lopart careening around Sheet Rock Hills on an out-of-control swivel chair.
