Stretch’s Cookies

While out one day for a drive, Manny is stopped by a frantic Mrs. Portillo- the new oven she’d ordered is seemingly too big to fit through her front door, and she needs it for a baking contest later that day.

“Stretch’s Cookies” includes the following tropes:

  • Camera Abuse: While being chased by Fluffy, Rusty doesn’t look where he’s going and runs straight into the camera- that is, Mrs. Portillo’s sliding glass door.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: The tools have one where they realize that, if they take Mrs. Portillo’s sliding glass doors out of their frame, the space of the doorway will be big enough to allow her rather large new oven to be brought into the house.
  • Everyone Chasing You: This ensues when Fluffy starts chasing Rusty around, and the rest of the tools start chasing after Fluffy, trying to make her stop.
  • Fourth Wall Psych: While being chased, Rusty ends up crashing into the camera- oh wait, he actually just hit Mrs. Portillo’s sliding glass door.

Page Turner

Manny and the tools go to the Sheet Rock Hills Library in order to deal with a stuck turnstile, but their efforts to get it moving again only cause it to fall apart! While the other tools struggle to put it back together again, Turner strikes off out of boredom- and discovers a solution to their problem hidden within the library’s many bookshelves.

”Page Turner” contains examples of:

  • Fictional Document:
    • “The Mighty Little Toolbox”, evidently a childrens’ book series within the world of Handy Manny. Of the two books seen, one has the titular toolbox encounter a dinosaur (and, apparently, scare it off with a hammer), while another involves him going to space to stop an invasion of moonmen.
    • While trying to convince Turner that reading isn’t a waste of time, Marion shows him two repair manuals - one for cabinets, the other for motorcycles- and a book called “Great Tools Of The World”. The library also has a repair manual for turnstiles, which is put to good use by Manny.
    • At the end of the episode, Manny reads to the tools from a book called “How To Fix Broken Stuff”, the first chapter of which is on lawn furniture.
  • Epunymous Title: On Turner’s name, and “page turner”- what you might call really good book.
  • Flying Saucer: The Mighty Little Toolbox is seen riding one on the cover of the book where he goes to space.
  • Furry Confusion: Several inanimate tools can be seen on the cover of “Great Tools Of The World”
  • I've Heard of That — What Is It?:
Pat: Turner found a repair manual! (beat) What’s a repair manual?
  • Library Episode: Manny and the tools go to the library to fix a turnstile, and Turner ends up discovering the joys of reading when he finds a book that tells them exactly how the turnstile can be repaired.
  • Offscreen Crash: Mr. Lopart falls out of frame and causes one while struggling with a tube of rolled-up awning.
  • Prehistoric Monster: The “Mighty Little Toolbox” book Manny reads to the tools at the beginning of the episode apparently has a scene where the Mighty Little Toolbox is faced by one of these- and scares it off with a hammer.
  • "Reading Is Cool" Aesop: Turner (and, by extension, the audience) learns one when he discovers (by finding the manual for a turnstile Manny had been struggling to repair) that books can be not only fun but useful as well.
  • Read the Freaking Manual: Manny’s struggle to put a turnstile back together (its internal mechanisms had fallen out in a big pile when he opened it up to see why it wasn’t working) ends up being solved when Turner locates the turnstile’s repair manual.
  • Shout-Out: The Sheet Rock Hills Library has a librarian named Marion.
  • Space Episode: Apparently “The Mighty Little Toolbox” has a book where he goes to space and stops an Alien Invasion; Squeeze wants to get this book out of the library.
  • Upside-Down Blueprints: Mr. Lopart installed his awning upside-down courtesy of some of these, which meant that, during the rainstorm that apparently happened while Manny and the tools were in the library, water pooled in it rather than running off. Said collected water then drenches Mr. Lopart when he tries to put his awning down for the night.
