The friends throw Flippy a surprise party. Flippy loves surprises!
"Party Animal" provides examples of:
- Accidental Murder: The only two people not killed by Fliqpy are Flaky and Mole; the latter accidentally pops the former like a balloon and gets skewered by her quills after she explodes.
- Bait-and-Switch:
- At the start of the episode, it seems like Flaky's going to get her hand puréed by a mixer while trying to get a peanut out. Then she remembers that it's on, turns it off, and retrieves the peanut safely.
- Flippy looks like he's going to flip two times before he actually does.
- The first is when he opens the door to his house and the Tree Friends yelling "Surprise!" scares him. After a few panicked breaths, he calms down and is overjoyed by their thoughtfulness.
- The second is when Flaky hands him a knife to cut the cake. As Flippy stares at the knife, an evilly laughing Fliqpy is reflected on it. Then Flippy snaps out of it and proceeds to cut the cake.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: The closing iris chops off Flippy's swollen lips in the end.
- Body Horror:
- Flaky swells up hugely and her lips get large too when she eats a peanut.
- Flippy at the end gets swelled-up lips as well at the end after drinking Mime's blood. The closing iris even chops them off after that.
- Comically Missing the Point: Flippy doesn't seem to realize all the dead bodies around him once he snaps out of his "flipped" state and instead drinks the juice from a blender thinking it's fruit punch. (It's actually Mime's blended body.)
- Cruel and Unusual Death: Several.
- Toothy's entire front face gets cut off with a cake knife.
- Cuddles' body is sliced into pieces by a ceiling fan while suffocating.
- While spinning really fast, Nutty gets his skin cut off.
- Mime's entire body is shoved into a blender.
- Sniffles gets trapped inside a rolling barrel filled with knifes and gets cut into pieces.
- When Flaky is bloated by another allergic reaction, she's accidentally blown up by the Mole; Flaky's quills shoot out as she explodes, piercing the Mole all over and pinning him to the wall.
- Downer Ending: Flippy's party is ruined when Fliqpy massacres all the guests.
- Establishing Character Moment:
- Mime not speaking (he technically had appeared earlier in the TV series, but this is the first episode where he has a major role).
- Flippy's trigger which causes him to kill anyone on sight.
- Failed a Spot Check: Flippy is unaware that (almost) everyone in his surprise has been killed by him.
- Foreshadowing: At the start of the episode, Flaky reaches into a blender to get to a peanut, only to remember at the last second that the blender is on, turn it off, and eat the peanut unscathed. Later on, after Flippy has flipped, Fliqpy kills Mime by shoving him into that very same blender.
- Karma Houdini: Fliqpy gets away with killing almost every character in this episode. Unless you consider his lips being ripped off at the end to be payback.
- Laser-Guided Amnesia: Flippy doesn't remember killing his friends once he snaps out of his "flipped" state.
- Lip Losses: Flippy's lips swell up from an allergic reaction to venison, resulting in them being sliced off by the Iris Out.
- Made of Plasticine: This episode really shows just how weak the characters truly are.
- Match Cut: During the party preparations, a close-up shot of Nutty pouring sugar into the punch fades into a close-up shot of Sniffles pouring water into the apple bobbing tank.
- New Job as the Plot Demands: Lumpy is a doctor for this episode.
- Plot Allergy:
- Flaky is revealed in this episode to have a peanut allergy.
- Flippy is either allergic to venison or the peanuts that Mime ate after he drinks Mime's blood.
- "Pop!" Goes the Human: How Flaky dies in this episode; the Mole accidentally pops her like a balloon.
- Shock Party: While Flippy is initially happy with the party, Nutty drinking the punch sets off a chain of events that results with Flaky accidentally popping several balloons. Cue the war flashback. Cue Fliqpy. Cue the bloodbath.
- Sugar Causes Hyperactivity: Nutty gets this for this episode. Every time he has sugar in this episode, he transforms into a whirlwind ala Taz-Mania, goes all over the place creating chaos, and gets brutally skinned alive by psychotic cake-knife-wielding bear alter-egos.
- Tears of Joy: Flippy cries a Single Tear of happiness as the Tree Friends sing to him and bring him his birthday cake.
- Twitchy Eye: Flippy briefly gets one when the announcement of his surprise party scares him into nearly turning into Fliqpy. He gets a more pronounced one later when he turns into Fliqpy for real.
- Rule of Three: Flippy gets to the verge of flipping three times throughout the episode. The first two, he snaps out of it and goes back to normal before any harm is done. The third time, the Tree Friends aren't so lucky.
- They Killed Kenny Again: Toothy, Cuddles, Nutty, Mime, Sniffles, Mole, and Flaky die in this episode.
- Throw the Dog a Bone: Lumpy and Flippy survive this episode.
- Truth in Television: When a peanut jams the blender, Flaky unplugs it entirely rather than simply shutting it off, which many safety experts recommend when handling such equipment since otherwise there's a chance the blade will continue operating for a split-second after Flaky fixes the jam.
- Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Nutty eating sugar causes a chain reaction that starts the whole thing. His happy reaction accidentally causes Flaky to eat a peanut, which triggers an allergic reaction that makes her swell up and accidentally pop many of the balloons that were attached to the ceiling; the sound reminds Flippy of gunfire from the war, and he flips out.
