- "Pressure makes diamonds!"
Airdate: October 23, 2006
While robbing a museum, Lifty and Shifty are about to be thwarted by the heroic Splendid. However, one of the items they steal turns out to be the Krypto-nut, a glowing green nut that makes Splendid weak and nauseous. Discovering Splendid's weakness, the boys decide to it to their advantage to keep the hero at bay while they scheme. Can Splendid find a way around it or will evil triumph? This being HTF, most likely the latter.
"Gems the Breaks" contain examples of:
- Asshole Victim: Lifty, Shifty and Splendid become this in the end. Lifty and Shifty for (obviously) being criminals and robbing multiple buildings and innocent people. Splendid for causing the accidental deaths of several tree friends and murdering The Mole just because he annoyed him.
- Bittersweet Ending: Splendid dies from inhaling the Krypto-nut. But seeing how he accidentally causes more mayhem than he does stopping it and almost never suffers karma for his actions or learn to better himself, this was likely for the best for everyone else's well being.
- Bound and Gagged: Giggles and Petunia suffer this thanks to Lifty and Shifty taking over their lemonade stand.
- Brick Joke: The cup of lemonade that Splendid heated up with his lasers during the episode returns in the last scene where Lumpy finds the cup and drinks it, which causes his tongue to burn up.
- Call-Back: Giggles and Petunia run a lemonade stand, just like in "Eyes Cold Lemonade".
- Comedic Underwear Exposure: Shifty does this to Splendid in order to expose him to the Krypto-nut by pulling his pants down, and it's shown that Splendid wears a pair of heart-print boxers underneath his hazmat suit.
- Cruel and Unusual Death:
- After accidentally breathing in the entirety of the Krypto-nut's dust, Splendid's skin starts to fall of as he starts to vomit uncontrollably to the point his cheeks start to swell up over too much vomit being in his mouth which causes him to explode in a pool of his own vomit.
- Also there's Lifty and Shifty being boiled alive under the lake by Splendid's lasers.
- Eye Beams: Splendid uses this power to try killing Lifty and Shifty from Earth's orbit. As expected, it does a lot of collateral damage.
- Freeze-Frame Bonus: After Splendid collides with the bus, the force of the impact causes the passengers of the bus to be forcibly shoved into a wood chipper, and if you notice closely the characters that were shoved in to it was Cuddles, Toothy and Sniffles.
- Goofy Print Underwear: Apparently, Splendid decided to wear a pair of heart-print boxers underneath his hazmat suit, as shown when Shifty pulls his pants down to expose Splendid to the Krypto-nut again.
- Humiliation Conga: For Splendid, who spends a big portion of the episode utterly humiliated and powerless against Lifty and Shifty. Not to mention how this is one of the rare episodes where he dies.
- Karmic Death: Considering their actions, it's hard to not say Lifty, Shifty, and Splendid didn't deserve it.
- Kryptonite Factor: The Krypto-nut causes Splendid to become very nauseous and sick.
- Kryptonite-Proof Suit: Splendid's first idea to protect himself from the Krypto-nut is to wear a hazmat suit. It works until Shifty pulls his pants down.
- Laser-Guided Karma:
- Splendid, for the first time, finally gets this after killing several people both by accident and on purpose.
- Lifty and Shifty also get this after torturing and taunting Splendid with the Krypto-nut and committing several crimes while doing it.
- Man on Fire: Happens to Giggles and Petunia thanks to Splendid's laser vision heating up the planet, but they manage to survive it somehow.
- Pants-Pulling Prank: When Splendid wears a suit to protect himself from the Krypto-nut, Shifty pulls his pants down, exposing his heart-print boxers and letting the Krypto-nut affect him again.
- Shout-Out: The Krypto-nut is a reference to Kryptonite, an alien green mineral which saps Superman of his powers.
- Throw the Dog a Bone: Lumpy and Pop survive this episode.
- They Killed Kenny Again: Cuddles, Toothy, Sniffles, Handy, The Mole, Cub, Lifty, Shifty, and Splendid (and maybe even Giggles and Petunia) die in this episode.
- Too Dumb to Live: An ironic twist, given the fact that Splendid's incompetence usually causes the deaths of others, but this time, it ends up killing him. Instead of safely disposing of the Krypto-nut after dealing with Lifty & Shifty, he crushes it in his hands, takes off the helmet of his hazmat suit and blows the remains into the air. So, of course, the wind blows the dust back at him, making him inhale it and die an agonizing death.
- Took a Level in Jerkass: Splendid purposely kills The Mole in his car after honking at him for not moving.
- Tongue Trauma: Lumpy drinks some extra-heated lemonade, which burns his tongue a lot.
- Uncertain Doom: The fates of Giggles and Petunia. They survive being on fire but possibly drown in Splendid's tsunami of vomit.
- Vomit Indiscretion Shot: Big time during Splendid's death.
- Wood Chipper of Doom: Cuddles, Toothy and Sniffles are shredded to pieces by a wood chipper.
- Your Head A-Splode: Happens to Splendid in the end after holding in too much vomit in his mouth.
