Tropes in this Episode:
- Accidental Misnaming: King Cold refers to Goz and Mez as "Gozu and Mezu" while introducing himself. Given the implications of the post-credits scene, however, it's not clear if this is actually an accident or Malicious Misnaming.
- Actually Pretty Funny: When King Cold apologizes to Cell for Freeza's behavior:King Cold: He's never really gotten over the whole, uh... dying part.
Cell: Hmmm, well, death's a bitch and so is he.
King Cold: HAH! ...A little. - Ambiguous Situation:
- King Cold tells Cell that he oversees all of the HFILs. It isn't made clear if this means "all of the HFILs in Universe 7" or "all of the HFILs in the multiverse."
- Whether or not King Cold's Heel–Face Turn is genuine or if he's merely putting on a façade with the intent of busting everyone out of HFIL.
- Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: King Cold is this to Freeza full force.
- Brick Joke: Back during the sharing circle, Freeza asks Cell whose DNA made him smell like patchouli. Here, when King Cold notes that men like them can smell their own blood, Cell takes a whiff of his armpit and is surprised to find that he actually does smell like patchouli.
- Butt-Monkey:
- Raditz continues to literally be the bottom rung of HFIL's social ladder, as demonstrated when the rest of the MCMs pile on top of him during the Wall exercise.
- Guldo continues to be the Butt-Monkey for the Ginyu Force, being made to catch Burter — the tallest and arguably heaviest member of the team — during the Trust Fall exercise. Recoome's macaroni art also has him doing something unspeakable to/with Guldo's wife.*
- Call-Back: Guldo's wife is mentioned again, this time concerning something Recoome did involving her.
- Celestial Bureaucracy: After graduating from HFIL, King Cold was offered a job by the heavenly higher-ups and is now effectively the boss of Goz and Mez. The ogres don't seem too enthused with his oversight.
- Continuity Cameo: Raditz has a picture of his father in his room.
- Continuity Nod: Several on Raditz's board.
- King Yemma's picture has "Mahogony?" written on it.
- One of the pictures connected to the Ginyus is of diet Shasta.
- First-Name Ultimatum: King Cold usually calls Freeza by several endearing nicknames, but scoldingly calls him by his name when Freeza was deliberately going to let Cell hit the ground in the Trust Fall exercise. Freeza doesn't catch on at first.
- Fun with Acronyms: King Cold's official job title is "Honorable Atonement Director and Enrichment Specialist" (HADES). Lampshaded by Cell:Cell: And that acronym is more tortured than we are.
- Heel–Face Turn: King Cold graduated from HFIL two years before Cell's arrival, and was considered so rehabilitated that "management" put him in a supervisory role overseeing Goz and Mez. Possibly subverted by the post-credits scene, which strongly hints that he is putting up an act with the aim of breaking everyone (including his son) out of HFIL.
- My Greatest Failure: One of the activities the MCMs take part in is making macaroni art of their greatest regret in life.
- For Guru, it's Nail.
- For Cell, it's never getting the chance to choke the life out of Tien.
- For Freeza, it's never getting the chance to choke the life out of Goku.
- For Recoome, it's something involving Guldo's wife.
- Seen It All: Radtz is the only one to react stoically to Recoome's macaroni art portraying his greatest regret. Given what he's had to deal with in HFIL, it's little wonder he's beyond surprised.
- Ship Tease: An eagle-eyed viewer will notice that on Raditz's String Theory pegboard, the picture of Dodoria has the abbreviated name "Dori" and a heart symbol drawn on it, adding fuel to the fire that Raditz may have gotten into a relationship with Dodoria, which was started by his Sarcastic Confession in the previous episode.
- Strange Minds Think Alike: When the MCMs are asked to make a macaroni picture depicting their greatest regret in life, Cell makes a picture of him choking Tien, explaining that he regrets never getting around to choking Tien to death. Freeza, meanwhile, makes a picture of him choking Son Goku to death.
- String Theory: Raditz keeps a pegboard in his bedroom where he's posted photographs and information on everyone who has been sent to HFIL, including King Cold.
