Gordon and Bullock try to figure out who the clever thief is behind the robberies of various bank branches in Gotham. Meanwhile, Barbara is put in danger, forcing Tabitha to recruit help.

Tropes

  • All for Nothing: Barbara’s entire plot was centered around her defeating Ra’s and awakening the power of the Demon’s Head. However, not only does she fail to defeat Ra’s, but she also surrenders the Demon’s Head just so he won’t kill Tabitha.
  • Almost Kiss: Between Bruce and Selina, before Ra's shows up.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Barbara gives up the Demon's Head once Ra's threatens to kill Tabitha, and Tabitha spends the entire episode trying to protect Barbara.
  • Back from the Dead: Ra's is revived by his followers and he seeks out the Demon’s Head from Barbara, the current possessor of it.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Happens twice during the fight between Barbara and Ra's. Ra's manages to fatally impale Barbara and it appears that she's bound to die, but then the scene rewinds to reveal that it was just Barbara's vision of the future, given to her by the power of the Demon's Head. Later, Ra's slits Tabitha's throat and it appears that she dies when Barbara refuses to give Ra’s the Demon’s Head, but it ends up being another vision in Barbara's eyes.
  • Breather Episode: This episode serves as something of a buffer between the previous Wham Episode (which includes Jerome's final death and the birth of Gotham's true Joker) and the road to anarchy in the two-part season finale in the next.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Oswald demands to know what the Riddler is doing - betraying him again - he answers that he's just burning the Narrows property deeds.
  • Conflicting Loyalty: Once the Balashi Blade has been recovered, Barbara demands that Selina give her the knife. Due to Barbara having a gun out and Selina being pressured by the older women, she reluctantly give her the knife and leaves with them. Later on, Selina reveals that while she was pressured into choosing sides, she also didn’t want Bruce to be the way he was after he killed Ra’s the first time.
  • Hostage For Macguffin: Ra's demands that Barbara give up the Demon's Head or watch him kill Tabitha. Showing a good deal of Character Development she chooses her friend.
  • Hourglass Plot: Now that the Riddler personality is in charge, Ed's in his head, tormenting him every time he looks in the mirror.
  • Love Confession: The Riddler tells Lee that he understands her in a way Ed didn't and loves the darkness that the virus woke in her.
  • Major Injury Under Reaction: Barbara stabs Zombie Ra's with the Balashi Blade, but it fails to kill or even seriously injure him.
Ra's: (looks at the blade in him, then at Barbara) Ouch.
  • "Mission: Impossible" Cable Drop: Selina is lowered in through the embassy's skylight to grab the knife.
  • Moment Killer: Ra's interrupts Bruce and Selina's Almost Kiss. He meekly acknowledges his poor timing with appearing in the manor.
  • Morally Bankrupt Banker: Lee regards First Gotham National this way. Interviewing their Smug Snake representative, Jim seems to agree.
  • Only I Can Kill Him: Bruce and Alfred try to convince Barbara that Bruce has to be the one to kill Ra’s. However, due to her pride and desire to wield the Demon’s Head, she refuses to let Bruce be the one to do it.
  • Secret Test: The assassins that swore loyalty to Barbara attack her to test her ability to use the powers that come with the Demon's Head.
