A jealous Mario plots to drive Lee away from Gordon, while Bruce, Selina, and Alfred decide to find out what's inside the Court of Owls' safe. Barbara pays Ed a visit, and Ed begins to learn the truth about Mayor Cobblepot.

  • Batman Gambit: Mario pulls one on Gordon, knowing that Gordon's obsessive drive to find the truth, combined with his remaining love for Lee, will lead Gordon to the truth and, in trying to prove it, will make Gordon look like an unstable jealous ex. His plan works.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: When Gordon realized Mario's Batman Gambit.
  • Give Away the Bride: Carmine Falcone gives Lee, his daughter-in-law-to-be, away.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: As the title of the episode suggests, jealousy is a central theme. Mario is jealous that Gordon still has some of Lee's heart, Gordon is jealous that Mario's marrying Lee and that he missed his own chance with her, and Ed learns that Oswald's jealousy of Isabella's relationship with Ed led him to murder her.
  • Imagine Spot: Ed pictures stabbing Oswald in the back of the neck.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Ed discovers that Penguin is in love with him and murdered Isabella.
    • Everyone learns that Mario is infected with Alice's blood.
  • Missing Mom: Selina's mother shows up this episode, confirming Selina's beliefs that she was still alive.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Invoked. Gordon tells Falcone that if Mario tries to kill Lee, there's no going back for him. Sure enough...
  • Poor Communication Kills: Granted, Lee would taken anything Jim said as an attempt to win her over or to slander Mario, but Jim accusing Mario of faking the test and confessing his own love for her only plays into Mario's plan to him look like a madman. Jim could have at least told her about Mario assaulting him twice and just backed off with a warning.
  • Rewatch Bonus: At the very climax of the episode, the average viewer may get too caught up in James shooting Mario, and seeing the potential murder weapon fall out of sight thus leaving James with no proof to defend his actions, to notice that Mario's blood splashed on to Lee's face when he was shot.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: Jervis, as always. Jim takes advantage of this by rhyming back at him, tricking Jervis into accidentally spilling the beans about Mario's infection with Alice Tetch's blood.
  • Spanner in the Works: Jervis injected Mario with Alice's blood as part of his revenge on Gordon.
  • The Starscream: Ed and Barbara pull a Villain Team-Up to take down Penguin and take over the city.
  • Tempting Fate: Gordon promises to bring Mario back to Falcone alive, and right up until the end it looks as though he might. Then he walks in on Mario brandishing a knife menacingly towards Lee, so Gordon shoots Mario.
  • Til Murder Do Us Part: Mario's obsessive jealousy leads him to ask Lee if she still has feelings for Gordon. When she replies that she'll always care about him in some part of her heart, but that she chose and married Mario, he (or rather the voices in his head) doesn't take it well. Luckily Jim intervenes before he can stab his new bride.
  • Wham Episode: Serious mid-season finale stuff here: Gordon kills Mario to save Lee, but under circumstances that make it look unprovoked and which guarantee Carmine Falcone's wrath. Selena's mom returns, and seems to be involved in the whole Court Of Owls intrigue going down. And Ed learns the truth about Isabella's death, and vows bloody revenge on Penguin.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: A broken-down Lee scolds Gordon for making "wild accusations" on Mario and for telling her too late he still loves her.
