It's Just Like Riding A Bike

Lorelai returns to Luke's. Sookie hates a child who came to daycare with chickenpox. Jackson has never had that, so he can't live in the house with his kids. Lorelai offers to let him stay with her.

Paris receives a number of acceptance letters. She yells at the letter from Harvard that she's gonna reject it like it rejected her back in season three. Sookie is worried about Jackson being rude to Lorelai while he stays at her house. Gypsy thinks Lorelai's car should be put down. Lorelai uses a bike in the meantime.

Sookie is surprised that Jackson doesn't get on Lorelai's nerves. They agree that Lorelai should ask Luke to help her buy a car, something Luke is surprisingly eager to do. Paris breaks up with Doyle because he might influences her decision about which school to go to. She can't decide between medicine and law.

Jackson broke Lorelai's dollhouse trying to figure out how to build one. He and Sookie make up about the surprise pregnancy. Luke calls Lorelai out on anthropomorphizing cars, a criticism she doesn't take particularly seriously.

Luke finds Lorelai another jeep for sale on Craigslist and tells Lorelai she can use it as an engine donor for her old jeep. Doyle un-breaks up with Paris. Rory doesn't get the fellowship.

Tropes

  • Blatant Lies: Lorelai pretends to pull over while on the phone with Rory. Rory's concerns about her mother riding a bike are in no way allayed.
  • Call-Back: Paris no longer wants to go to Harvard, but applied so she could reject them as payback for rejecting her in season three.
  • Continuity Snarl: Lorelai claims she and Rory's bike phase lasted two weeks, but Rory once said it took her four months to learn to ride a bike.
  • Cool Boat: Lorelai wishes she could replace her car with a swan-shaped boat in which she can wear all white.
  • Lampshade: Luke hangs one on how ridiculous Lorelai's reasoning can be.
Luke: Hatchbacks do not have SUV inferiority complexes.
  • Product Placement: Sports cars, from the sound of it. Lorelai is convinced they think they are better than other cars.
  • Shout-Out
    • Kirk explaining why his seat is the best one in Luke's sounds a lot like Sheldon explaining why his spot on the couch is the best. The fact it hadn't aired yet may not matter a lot since the latter have live studio audiences.
    • Ryan O'Neil and Farrah Fawcett is the only former couple Sookie can think of to compare Lorelai and Luke to.
    • A guy in Rory's Shakespeare class is a thhink tank guy in Washington.
    • Lorelai should get a Delorean Back to the Future, but wants a batmobile.
    • Lucy and Olivia name their new apartment Glinda
    • Paris was going to see Blaze Of Glory with Doyle.
    • Jack Bauer should torture terrorists by making them car shop with their exes.
    • Luke can't stand Air Supply.
  • Techno Babble: Lorelai and Sookie do this to make fun of Sookie's asking what the problem is with Lorelai's car.
  • This Is My Chair: Subverted. Lorelai was unaware she used to hog the best seat in the diner while she was, but now Kirk is claiming it and he can explain exactly whyit's the best seat.
