Season 5, episode 19
But I'm A Gilmore!
Written by: Amy Sherman-Palladino
Rory decides to break up with Logan because his tendency to not call her isn't working for her. He caves and agrees to go exclusive, even though she wasn't asking for that. Rory meets Logan's sister and later parents. Sookie is on bedrest and Luke fills in for her, which makes her uncomfortable because he's not a gourmet chef, despite being unwilling to hire a replacement for her maternal leave. Paris comes home to find Doyle who is too sick to move, but not too sick to whine, so she enlists her nanny to take care of him as sick people freak her out.Provides examples of:
- Absurd Phobia: Sick people seem like a reasonable one, except Paris is pre-med. She is sick of people throwing that in her face.
- Berserk Button:
- Logan's grandfather has a problem with the maid putting food down in front of him.
- Upsetting Sookie by not letting her troll you while she's pregnant is one for Jackson.
- Big Eater: Logan thinks one of the best things about being with Rory is the horrified looks on the waiters' faces when she places her orders.
- Bilingual Bonus:
- Paris's Nanny comes by to take care of Doyle while he's sick, and speaks all her lines in Portuguese.
- Luke speaks Spanish to the Dragonfly kitchen staff, especially Manny.
- Blatant Lies: Sookie claims she just assumed that Luke put goat cheese in the fennel salad and walnuts in the béchamel when she calls to berate him about doing those exact things.
- Call-Back: Rory tells Logan to remind her to tell him about the time Lorelai climbed out a second-story window to get away from Emily.
- Captain Obvious:
- When asked, Logan's grandfather explains that his boat is one that floats.
- Lorelai isn't bossing Jackson around when she says it's a good idea to stop here, because "here" is his and Sookie's house.
- Foreshadowing: Logan says the reason his family doesn't like Rory is that she's marrying the heir to the estate, despite it being their first date as an official couple.
- Fourth-Date Marriage: Less than 48 hours after they went exclusive, Logan utters the words "Josh isn't marrying the heir to the Huntzberger fortune. You are," to Rory.
- It's All About Me: Shira wishes Logan would date the Fallon girl because she liked her, finding it somewhat irrelevant that Logan didn't.
- Loophole Abuse: Luke demands that the kitchen staff stop taking food off the premises, so to sneak-taste his food Sookie rents a room on the premises.
- Meet the In-Laws: Rory has dinner with the Huntzbergers the day after she and Logan go steady.
- Product Placement: Doyle needs his Nyquil.
- Running Joke: Paris getting fed up with people telling her she can't be freaked out by sick people since she's pre-med.
- Shout-Out:
- Because she likes tormenting hungover people, Lorelai shouts Good Morning, Vietnam!
- Lorelai claims Rory has a House of Flying Daggers way of vomiting when drunk.
- Paris warns of a Mr. Creosote situation if people keep talking about vomiting around her.
- Rory was all The Exorcist on the toilet.
- Lorelai had a Coyote Ugly thing on the Founder's Day punch once and feels Rory should have learned from it.
- Paris quotes Jerry Reed's When You're Hot, You're Hot at Doyle.
- Sookie calls Lorelai to give her dinner instruction. Lorelai can't follow a food recipe even to write it down, so she informs Sookie that "You lost me at 'carrots'" was the first draft of "you had me at hello".
- Michel quotes Nickolas Ashford & Valerie Simpson's Ain't No Mountain High Enough at Lorelai.
- Rory needs bad hangover movies, so Logan suggests a Rob Schneider movie.
- Logan had a crush on Alyssa Milano once, during his Who's the Boss? phase.
- Doyle thinks Nanny's balm makes him smell like Luke and Han after they slept inside tauntaun carcasses.
- Sookie likes to read in the freezer.
- Lorelai claims she broke up Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley by suggesting he get a hooker.
- Luke suggests Sookie watch Ellen dance around a little.
- Paris calls Rory Annette Bening, who married notorious bachelor Warren Beatty.
- Rory finds that the Huntzbergers have a Velasquez.
- Sookie and Jackson do the eccentric version of The Amazing Race.
- Lorelai feels like Frodo is on every channel.
- Hating Rory is like hating Thumper, according to Lorelai.
- She also wonders if the Huntzbergers think they're the Gambinos.
- Paris compares Doyle's last breakup to the one between Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland.
- Smurfette Principle: Jackson is mad at Lorelai because he's mad at Luke, and by extension, she's Luke.
- Suspiciously Specific Denial: Shira says out of nowhere that her rejection of Rory has nothing to do with Lorelai.
- Take That!: The reason Manny was a bad cook at first is said to be that he is from New Jersey.
- Title Drop: Rory argues that she is a Gilmore when Logan's parents reject her.
- Verbal Backspace: Logan shows up in the middle of Rory's tirade on the phone with Lorelai about them not being right for each other, making her forget all her doubts.
