This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Batman Gambit: Weller has the new recruits start getting used to their Holons right by where the latest transport of evacuees is going to land in order to get them serious about fighting the Union.
  • Brick Joke: Dr. Weller is aggravated by the constant intrusion of ABLE and threatens to reprogram him to only speaking in Gilbert and Sullivan lyrics if he bursts in another time. Near the end of the episode, ABLE shows up and tells that there was a message for Colonel Marin who was in the room at the time.
ABLE: (Speaking in the tune) Colonel, you have a message from a Modern Major General.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • What happens when a bunch of greenhorns in advance mechs go up against veterans in standard tank mechs? The veterans promptly school the greenhorns.
    • However, when said veterans go up against another veteran in one of those advance mechs they are the ones that get schooled.
  • A Glass in the Hand: Upon hearing the conversation between Jodie and Miranda about how they need to tell him they're together, Julien crushes the ball he was holding.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Name-dropped and discussed by Chase, in response to Valentina wishing to "leave a beautiful corpse, an open bar tab, and no regrets."
Chase: You're gonna go live it up like there's no tomorrow, which is gonna make sure there's no tomorrow. I can guaran-damn-tee you'll have one last regret as the Union nano hits wherever you been partying at. You'll think, maybe I could have changed this, and I didn't.
