Hypocritical Humor: Ed claims that Buccaneer's automail looks tacky. Ed's sense of style has been repeatedly mocked by the other characters
Karmic Nod: Marcoh doesn't object how disfigured his face is now, as he acknowledges is appropriately reflects his past sins.
No-Sell: Edward attempts to deconstruct Buccaneer's automail using alchemy in an attempt to prevent his arm from being destroyed. It doesn't go as planned.
Kimblee sees right through Scar's attempts at diverting his pursuers and covering up his tracks through the mountains after disembarking the train.
Nothing Is the Same Anymore : A small variation. After Ed uses Alphonse's ribbon of hair to jam Buccaneer's automail, there's no use saving the hair and it has to be cut off to free Al's head. Since it's not hair on a living person, Alphonse's ribbon of hair does not grow back. From here on, it remains short.
Rule of Symbolism: Throughout the series, Al's helmet head has sported a ribbon of "hair". Upon reaching Briggs, the event of the episode leads to Al losing a good deal of that "hair", almost like he received an unwitting buzz cut. This perfectly matches the cold and militaristic nature of Briggs.
Talking Is a Free Action: Subverted in the case of thinking. Kimblee's distracted by analyzing Scar and gets a sharpened pipe through the chest for his trouble.
Use Your Head: An unconventional example, but Ed stuffs Alphonse's helmet into Buccaneer's automail and uses the ribbon to jam the chainsaw inside.
Worf Had the Flu: When he attempts to fight Scar only to discover he's outmatched, Kimblee realizes that he had been in prison for several years whereas Scar had spent the past few months hunting down and killing dangerous state alchemists like him.
