The gang, especially Ross, has to put up with Rachel's bad mood when the baby is late. Monica and Phoebe bet on when the baby will be born. Joey attends the premiere of his movie and takes Chandler along, but gets mad when Chandler falls asleep.
Tropes:
- Bad Mood as an Excuse: Rachel is in one sour mood throughout the episode, due to the baby being late. Everyone treats that as a valid reason, but that doesn't mean they want to listen to her complain.
- The Bet: Monica and Phoebe keep making bets about when Rachel's baby will be born, which Monica keeps losing. When Rachel and Ross find out they ask if they can join in, much to Monica's frustration as now she's betting against three people.
- Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: After we see her constantly picking fights with the others, Rachel is nothing but pleasant to her doctor. When Ross points that out, an indignant Rachel remarks, "She has the drugs."
- Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Rachel's water breaking and her and Ross leaving for the hospital.
- Comically Missing the Point: Ross and Rachel are told that sex can help induce labor. Later, when Rachel's water breaks immediately after they start kissing, Ross remarks that he's good.
- Competition Freak: Which is what makes losing the bets to Phoebe so frustrating for Monica. Phoebe gladly rubs it in her face that she lost.
- Continuity Nod: The movie Joey and Chandler attend is the same one Joey was shooting in the previous season's finale.
- Eye Scream: Ross absentmindedly touches his eyes immediately after touching some spicy peppers. He clamly tells Rachel not to repeat his mistake before slamming his hand on the coffee table in frustration.
- Friendship Moment: Joey invited Chandler to the premiere as thanks for all the classes he paid for and the times he provided moral support at auditions.
- Indy Ploy: With her attempts to seduce him falling flat, Rachel goads Ross by being insulting. Ross quickly cracks.
- "It" Is Dehumanizing: When Ross calls Rachel's choice of dress into question, Phoebe warns him not to anger "it", referring to Rachel as though she were a wild animal.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Ross describing her as "Mommy" gets him yelled at by Rachel, who says it's bad enough that he still calls his own mother that. Monica admits she agrees with Rachel on that one.
- Moment Killer: Rachel and Ross almost have sex, but her waters break as they are making out. Of course, that was the point of having sex. They then have an affectionate moment and Rachel wonders if they can get a quickie in before going to the hospital. Ross says no.
- No Pregger Sex: Averted. The doctor tells Rachel and Ross that having sex is the most effective method to speed things up. This causes tension between the two as Ross thinks it would be inappropriate (because of their history, not because she's pregnant), while Rachel wants the pregnancy over with already.
- Pregnancy Makes You Crazy: Rachel gets very cranky due to being late in delivering and lashes out at the gang.
- "Shut Up" Kiss: Rachel tries to annoy Ross into having sex with her. It works as Ross all but throws himself at her with a kiss and announces he will get the baby out of her.
- Sophisticated as Hell: On the subject of Rachel and Ross having sex, Phoebe has the following thought: "No, I think that if the two of you had sex, the-the-the repercussions would be catastrophic."
- Victoria's Secret Compartment: Phoebe puts the $50 note she won on from Monica in her bra, while saying: "General Grant, why don't you set up camp right here."
