Recap / Friends S 7 E 23 The One With Monica And Chandlers Wedding Part One

Go To

It's the eve of Monica and Chandler's wedding when they are having their rehearsal dinner and Chandler starts panicking when it sinks in that they are to be Mr. and Mrs. Bing. Ross states his determination to kick Chandler's ass if he ever hurts Monica, but nobody takes him seriously. Joey gets a role in a World War I movie, but has problems with his co-star, Richard Crosby (Gary Oldman), who spits in every one of his lines.

Tropes:

  • Anachronism Stew: Joey gets the idea to wear shades so he doesn't get Richard's spit in his eyes. Ross snarks that Ray Ban (founded 1936) was the sponsor for World War I. Joey doesn't get it.
  • Commitment Issues: Chandler's old commitment issues rear their ugly head in the eve of his wedding to Monica and he has run away at the end of the episode.
  • Face Palm: Chandler facepalms after Jack Geller confuses his mother for his Drag Queen father.
  • Ham-to-Ham Combat: After Richard convinces Joey that "great actors spit!" their next scene becomes a contest of who can spray the most on each other. When the director finally calls cut they laugh and congratulate each other while wiping their faces with towels.
  • If You Ever Do Anything to Hurt Her...: Ross promises Chandler that he will hunt him down and kick his ass if he ever hurts Monica. Unfortunately for Ross, it doesn't have the intended effect and Chandler bursts out laughing, as does everyone he repeats his resolution to.
  • Oh, Crap!: Chandler gets especially panicky whenever someone refers to him and Monica as "the Bings" or "Mr. and Mrs. Bing".
  • Past-Life Memories: Implied when Phoebe comments that "we" called World War I, "The Great "War" in a way that makes it sound like she was there.
  • Spitty Speaker: Joey’s co-star Richard keeps spitting on his face when saying his lines. Richard claims that all actors spit when enunciating properly. The two end up spitting at each other on the next take.
