Recap / Friends S 8 E 11 The One With Rosss Step Forward

Go To

Ross thinks Mona is taking things too fast and the two discuss their relationship, but every point Ross tries to make just makes him dig himself deeper. Rachel is on her fourth month of pregnancy and her hormones are causing her to lust after every guy she sees. Chandler tries to get out of dinner with his recently divorced boss by faking that he's separating from Monica himself.

Tropes:

  • Cardboard Pal: When Phoebe was pregnant, she fulfilled her sexual needs with a cardboard cut-out of boxer Evander Holyfield. She offers to lend it to Rachel but after a few seconds she takes it back because she doesn't want to be apart from it.
  • Chivalrous Pervert: When Rachel's increased sex drive leads her to hit on Joey he immediately freaks out and shoots her down because it's "wrong and weird".
  • Christmas Episode: Season 8's Christmas episode. The most Christmas-y thing that happens is Mona wanting to send a holiday card with Ross, which kicks off their plot.
  • Girl on Girl Is Hot: While reminiscing about Phoebe's pregnancy Monica remembers that Phoebe tried to hit on her once which leads to some playful "I could have had you" bantering. Rachel has to ask them to stop because it's turning her on too much.
  • I "Uh" You, Too: Ross isn't ready to say "I love you" to Mona and considers saying "I love spending time with you" instead. Monica and Phoebe shoot the idea down, calling it "a slap in the face". When Ross finally decides to tell Mona he loves her she replies with "I love spending time with you".
  • Master of the Mixed Message: Mona calls Ross out on his conflicting gestures like agreeing to the holiday cards and the dodging talking about the relationship or giving her a key and then changing his lock.
  • No Pregger Sex: Averted in the sense that Rachel and Phoebe have no problem with having sex during pregnancy, but Rachel doesn't want to have sex with a random guy Phoebe brought for her since she's never met him before.
  • Please, Don't Leave Me: After spending the evening with his boss Chandler comes home and asks Monica to promise never to leave him so he doesn't become as pathetic as Doug.
Chandler: Y’know what the worst part was? I got to see what my life would be like without you. It was like It's a Wonderful Life with lap dances. Please promise that you will never leave me, that we will grow old together, and be with each other for the rest of our lives.
    Monica: I promise.
  • Wedding Ring Removal: Doug tries to get Chandler to do this, but since Chandler isn't actually separated he refuses.
