”Life’s a bugger!”
While cleaning up the loft, the boys discover Martin’s old ventriloquist dummy, Lord Luck, whom he currently annoys everyone with. Jonny’s depressed friend, Ben, who’s fiancée walked out on him, comes round for dinner.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Alternate Catchphrase Inflection: Martin performs Lord Luck’s catchphrase “Bugger off!” in a high pitched voice. At the end of the episode, Jim makes a Wilson-based puppet called Little Wilson where he says “Jim is my friend!” in a goofy and bit deeper voice.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: At the very end of the episode, when Jim shows the family his Little Wilson puppet and repeatedly says his catchphrase, an irritated Jackie calmly tells him to “bugger off!”.
  • Brutal Honesty: While the boys and Jackie lie to Ben that his fiancé will come back, Martin (with Lord Luck) tells him the truth that she’s not coming back.
  • Dissonant Serenity: While the family and Ben are horrified to see Wilson has eaten a dead crow, Jim just says “Oh, Wilson!”, with a childish grin on his face.
  • Jerkass Ball: If you thought Martin wasn’t already one before, he certainly is one in this episode, where he constantly annoys his family and Ben with his ventriloquist dummy and doesn’t shut up when his family repeatedly tells him to.
  • Running Gag: The kitchen smoke alarm repeatedly going off, due to the faulty wire (according to Martin).
