Frasier and the rest of the gang end up seeing how much of a Manipulative Bitch Mel is after Niles introduces her to them.
Tropes:
- Double Meaning: After Daphne finds out about Martin and Clare she goes on a tirade about how disgusting it is and that people can't just go around acting on any desire that passes through their minds. Frasier and Martin are baffled, but the audience knows she's referring to her own conflicted feelings about Niles.
- Guilt Complex: At the start of the episode, Martin has this due to dating the widow of one of his recently deceased friends from his old police squad. Frasier inadvertently exacerbates this by saying that said widow has a son named Martin.
- I Need a Freaking Drink: Roz pointedly drinks her Bloody Mary after Mel makes a judgemental comment about serving alcohol so early in the morning. Daphne, who's never been portrayed as a particularly heavy drinker, helps herself to quite a few drinks throughout the scene and ends up noticeably intoxicated. It's never outright stated, but it appears she's doing it to deal with having to be around Niles and Mel.
- Manipulative Bitch: Mel subtly convinces Niles to withdraw his support for Frasier and launch his own bid for President of the Wine Club. Throughout the scene where she's talking him into it she also slowly makes him change his entire outfit by gradually picking out flaws in the suit he'd originally chosen.
