Cade sneaks back to Chicago to visit his wife's grave on their anniversary and is promptly arrested. Stuck in an interrogation room, he finds himself at the mercy of a Gua agent... and his wife's killer.
Tropes:
- Bittersweet Ending: Cade escapes having finally avenged Hannah's murder, but now he's had the crap beaten out of him and been labelled a Cop Killer. The tape of evidence he managed to make has been destroyed and his uncle (and only remaining family) is dead.
- Defiant to the End: The Gua agent reveals that this is how Hannah died. Kidnapped and interrogated about Cade, she realised he was right and derisively told her captors they'd made a terrible mistake, and that by attacking Cade they'd "made your own worst enemy." Maybe they should have listened...
- Hope Spot: After turning the tables on his Gua interrogator, Cade uses the fact that he's being taped to prove that aliens are real. The tape features a detailed confession to Hannah's murder and the Gua's advanced healing. For a precious few minutes, that tape full of evidence is in the hands of the authorities... until the corrupt Chief, nervous of bad publicity, decides to just blame everything on Cade and destroys the tape.
- Jack Bauer Interrogation Technique: The Gua operative tries various methods to get information about the Nostradamus prophecies out of Cade, from beating it out of him to taking his uncle hostage.
- Real Time: After the opening titles, the Chief declares that the detectives have forty-two minutes to interrogate Cade before the FBI arrive to take custody. Co-incidentally about the length of the episode.
- Schmuck Bait: Cade is the first to admit that visiting his wife's grave on their anniversary was not the smartest plan. The cops had the cemetery staked out for that very reason.
- Serial Killer: One of the detectives is investigating a series of murders similar to Hannah's, and is determined to get Cade to confess to them. His partner, a Gua agent, kills him and takes over the interrogation. Cade ends up blamed for the murder.
- Title Drop: "The Box" is the interrogation room where Cade is held.
