Recap / Final Space S 3 E 1 And Into The Fire

Go To

Upon entering Final Space, Invictus sets a trap for the Crimson Light which leads them to getting separated from each other. Now, their sole initiative is to survive.

  • Bizarre Alien Biology: Tribore becomes pregnant, except the child would exclusively be coming out of his back. With that, one has to remove a "cork" from it, and he would then "lay" an egg.
    • Said child also grows to adulthood within seconds, and generates an outfit and guns seemingly out of thin air in the process.
  • Boom, Headshot!: Done with a ship of all things, as Sheryl activates the light fold engines to fly the Crimson Light through a Titan's head.
  • Brawler Lock: Bolo and the lizard Titan clasp hands and wrestle against each-other a couple times in this episode.
  • Dark Is Evil: The two corrupted Titans that Bolo and the Team Squad face off against in this episode have notably darker and duller color schemes than the gold-and-aqua colored Bolo.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: The lizard Titan is a servant of Invictus, and he speaks in an even deeper voice than Bolo does.
  • Immediate Sequel: This begins right where "The Sixth Key" left off.
  • Killed Off for Real: AVA is gravely damaged when the Crimson Light has a run-in with a Titan. Despite HUE suggesting she reenter his body as before, she declines informing him that her hardware was too damaged and the transfer would take too long.
  • Mercy Kill: Ash is compelled to put the giant that they meet out of his misery when he explains that his extended time in Final Space infected him.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Bolo behaves very strangely in this episode as in the beginning he shows care towards the team squad to the point where he tries to protect them from Invictus by hurling the ship to a distant planet with unfortunate results. When he is seen a month later after his fight with the lizard Titan, and after the aforementioned planet is accidentally destroyed and separating the crew, Bolo immediatly does not bother to search for Gary and the others and somehow knows that Gary is still alive, fining to Mooncake in the process.
  • Plot Hole: It is never revealed how Bolo knew that Gary was still alive when crafting his lie to Mooncake. The episode shows Bolo crashing head first onto the planet after being hurled into it by the lizard Titan with the planet blown to pieces and the team squad separated and very far away from Bolo and Mooncake’s location. This make the whole lie look more like a jumping to conclusions or an immediate assumption.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Invictus causes the eyes of the alternate Gary's it reanimates to glow with pinkish-purple light the same way Avocato's did. This episode also features a lizard-like Titan who has glowing purple eyes and lightning and dark purple highlights on his body, and Bolo needs Mooncake's assistance to kill him.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: The purple-eyed Titan has a long tail, slender body-shape, and double-jointed legs which altogether make him vaguely look like a bipedal reptile; and he's a servant of Invictus who attacks the Team Squad, Bolo and Mooncake on his master's behalf.
  • Shock and Awe: The lizard Titan produces lightning from his body to electrocute Bolo and send the latter crashing into the planet where the Team Squad are located.
  • Shout-Out: Tribore's son briefly is shown wearing a white cloak as a reference to Piccolo from the Dragon Ball series.
    • The scene in which Gary and Avocato imagine reaching each other in a field of reeds is very reminiscent of the afterlife from Gladiator.
  • Unrobotic Reveal: The giant robot that Avocato's group comes across is revealed to be an organic alien that's been trapped in Final Space.
  • Unstoppable Rage: When Bolo and the reptile Titan's battle shatters the planet that the Team Squad were on, a stricken Mooncake unleashes his planet-destroying beam on the Titan in a rage, severing his arm and enabling Bolo to take control of the fight.
  • [Verb] This!: Bolo when he's beating down the reptile Titan:
    "FEEL THAT!"
  • Wham Shot: The episode ends with Quinn, Gary, KVN and HUE discovering the Earth.
    • Earlier in the episode, Quinn lifts her glove to reveal that she now has Volcanic Veins on her arm from her time in Final Space.
  • You're Insane!: When Sheryl declares they are going to do a short burst light fold right through a Titan, Avocato screams "What?! You're just as crazy as Gary!"
Sheryl: I'm his mother. Where do you think he got it from?
