Part two of the Film Reroll 007 trilogy. Based on the 1981 Bond movie.
James Bond (Roger Moore, played by Carolyn Faye Kramer) is in a rough spot, still mourning the death of his wife Teresa, who was killed by his archnemesis, Ernst Stavro Blofeld. However, duty still calls for our agent as a helicopter comes to pick him up and take him towards his next mission. Then suddenly, the pilot drops dead, the helicopter starts flying by itself, and Bond hears the familiar voice of Blofeld over the radio. As it turns out, the head of S.P.E.C.T.R.E. is flying the helicopter remotely, and has transformed it into a Death Trap for his old foe. Will 007 prevail? Or will Blofeld finally manage to break the British agent's winning streak?
James Bond will return in more of "For Your Eyes Only"...
...following a detour through "Tomorrow Never Dies".
Tropes:
- Actually Pretty Funny: In-Universe, Bond finds Blofeld's Evil Laugh to be rather infectious, and can't help but chuckle along.
- Adaptational Badass: Blofeld never being apprehended has the side effect of both making him seem more competent as well as removing his Villain Decay into a Dirty Coward begging for mercy.
- Beware the Silly Ones: Carolyn's Bond may be quite a Cloud Cuckoolander, (possibly due to Sanity Slippage following the death of his wife,) but he's just as competent as ever, being the only incarnation of Bond in this episode to survive his segment.
- Could Have Been Messy: Bond manages to take control of the helicopter right before it smashes into a wall. The playerd lampshade what a cinematic scene it turned out to be.
- Faux Affably Evil: The Vicar might be this, assuming he's in on Blofeld's plan, (which the campaign is no more clear on than the original film was.)
- Flashback with the Other Darrin: A variation. Bond recognises Blofeld's voice, despite the character obviously having been recast (once again) in the original film.
- Manly Tears: Bond starts crying these while mourning Teresa, but they soon turn into outright melodrama.
- Named by the Adaptation: Due to rights issues surrounding the character, it was technically left ambiguous in the film if the villain in the Bond Cold Open really was Blofeld, (though it was of course heavily implied.) Paulo, however, decides to just screw that and confirm his identity, giving Bond more of a motivation to take him down.
- Not So Stoic: Bond weeping at his late wife's grave was probably meant to be a case of this, but Carolyn takes it so far that it comes across like an outright Adaptation Personality Change.
- Reconstruction: Could be seen as one, as Bond manages to survive even without his Plot Armor. His only failure — Blofeld managing to slip through his grasp — simply happens due to bad luck and has no real impact on Paulo's test.
- Sequel Hook: As Carolyn actually wins her segment, Paulo promises to make a proper For Your Eyes Only campaign at some point in the future, starring her as James Bond. Notably, her segment ends with Blofeld managing to slip away undetected.
- Shout-Out: Kara mentions that Teresa died before Bond's latest regeneration, referencing the "James Bond is a Time Lord" fan theory.
- Soft Water: Subverted. DM Paulo Quiros explains that jumping into the Thames might be survivable, but it's probably not worth taking the risk. In the end, Carolyn goes with a different strategy.
- Spared by the Adaptation: Unlike in the film, Bond never discovers Blofeld's location, meaning that whatever happens in Paulo's proposed sequel, SPECTRE Number 1 gets to outlive his movie counterpart.
- The Unseen: Granted, this is a podcast, but even In-Universe Bond never actually meets Blofeld, only hearing him over the radio.
- Yaoi Fangirl: Teresa Bond was one in life, apparently.
