Season 8, Episode 3

Mo's hunt to prove PADRE's true intentions has her in over her head as she's drawn into a larger web of secrets.

  • And Then John Was a Zombie: Sam and Ben's father is later shown to have reanimated.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Given that Shrike has revealed that she is Padre's daughter, and that he was surrounded by the dead, you'd think it was Ben they lost. But it was actually their father, who saved them both only to be consumed himself.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: Ben and Sam serve as this, with the former posing as "Padre" and Sam handling the day-to-day operations outside of his office.
  • Call-Back: Madison initially refers to June as "Naomi", the fake name she was using when they met back in Season 4.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Sam and Ben mention the bombings of Atlanta and Los Angeles as part of Operation: Cobalt.
    • General Krennick mentions having made contact with Senator Vasquez.
    • Madison learns that Dove is the daughter of Ava, who died in the Season 7 finale.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: As "Padre", Ben has been pretending to be his and Sam's father in order to create the illusion that he's still alive and provide a figurehead for their people to follow.
  • Face Death with Dignity: General Krennick faces his death rather well, and keeps his composure pretty well while being Devoured by the Horde, and simply tells his children to continue his work and that he loves them.
  • Given Name Reveal: Shrike's name is revealed to be Sam.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Ben and Sam's father boosts them to safety on top of a container before sinking into the horde.
  • Hypocrite: Much is made of the reveal that Shrike is PADRE's daughter given how PADRE has been stealing children from their parents for years for their supposed own good. It turns out to not be the case, as PADRE is revealed to be General Krennick's son Sam posing as a figure of authority with Shrike being his sister.
  • My Greatest Failure: Daniel deeply regrets not being there for Charlie in (what he assumes to have been) her final days.
  • La Résistance: Daniel has formed one formed by parents who had their children taken by PADRE.
  • The Reveal: Padre's face is revealed, and we learn the origins of the PADRE organization.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Neither Sam or Ben were particularly combat-ready in the flashbacks, nor were they much in the way of wits as evidenced by how they blundered their way into the horde. By the present day, they're hardened child traffickers.
  • Uncertain Doom: Madison floats the possibility of Charlie having survived her radiation sickness. Luciana is also mentioned in past tense as if she’s died.
  • We Gotta Stop Meeting Like This: Daniel says this almost word for word when he surrounds the small group towards the end of the episode.
