Recap / Family Guy S 19 E 5 La Famiglia Guy

Go To

When Peter is made Susie's godfather, he assumes he's now The Godfather. And soon becomes the toughest mobster in town.

Tropes:

  • As Long as It Sounds Foreign: When Chris is sent to Italy, he meets an Italian girl and they speak to each other in "Italian"; that is to say, the names of various Italian foods, locations, and celebrities.
  • Brick Joke: As a part of his Don persona Peter smashes a jar of Prego against the fridge, finding the brand smug because it's mediocre but its name means "You're welcome". At the end Peter is saved from the other mafia dons by a jar of Prego, who says its name to Peter when he thanks it.
  • Digging Yourself Deeper: Brian is almost strangled to death by Peter for eating the last of his chicken parm, but he's distracted by the "way better" steak sandwiches on ciabatta and stops strangling Brian. Unfortunately for Brian, he lets slip he also drank Peter's last cream soda that he wanted to drink with the sandwiches, apparently not learning his lesson or at least keeping his mouth shut, and Peter proceeds to set up Brian being shot by Quagmire.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: The Running Gag of Brian being killed (via such methods as strangulation, being shot in the back, and even thrown into a woodchipper) over eating or drinking the last of somebody's food or drink that he didn't even know was theirs.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Don Imus gets kicked out of the mobster meeting for making a racist comment.
  • Right-Hand Cat: During Susie's christening, Peter is holding a cat in his arms to further cement his new mafia-boss image. Lois mentions that he can't bring a cat into church, to which Peter responds "Why not? He's Cat-olic!"
  • Rule of Three: Each of the three acts begins with someone reading the newspaper and saying "I can't believe [topical political figure dated by Production Lead Time] hung themselves for [clause]".
  • Running Gag: Brian eating something someone left in the fridge, and getting executed for it in a shout-out to the Godfather films (and Fargo).
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: After shooting Brian dead, Quagmire shoots him another two times (most likely out of spite).
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Brian gets killed by various members of the Griffin Family throughout the episode.
  • Tranquil Fury: The best way to describe everyone's reaction to Brian eating the last of their food or drinking the last of their drink is to calmly state there's no problem or it's okay, then murdering Brian without emotion later on.
  • Wood Chipper of Doom: At the end of the episode, Brian and Lois take a walk in the woods after Brain admits that he drunk the last of her wine; Brain fears that Lois is going to kill him mafia-style, but Lois reassures him that she doesn't like mafia movies. However, she is a fan of Fargo and throws him into a woodchipper.

Don group

The Head Don introduces Peter to the other Dons of the nearby mafias. Naturally, their names are all puns (the Head Don's name is not revealed).
