After setting up a cutaway together, Peter and Lois find themselves trapped in a cutaway gag.
Tropes:
- All Just a Dream: The entire episode is a fever dream from Peter eating raw oysters and passing out. This receives exactly zero foreshadowing and we don't even see Peter wake up; Lois just exposits this on the beach to him after the commercial break ends.
- Asshole Victim: Discussed between the family when they have to kill Hitler to escape Cutaway Land.Lois: I know he was bad and all, but do we really have the right to kill a fellow human being?Brian: Human being? It's Hitler!
- Bait-and-Switch: After Brian is warped unwillingly into a cutaway with the others, he notes that they took him away while driving. The scene cuts to his electric car heading for some kids crossing the road...albeit at a safely slow speed with no one getting harmed, except the crossing guard who has an existential crisis from the car not stopping for his signal.
- Call-Back:
- The "Das Gym" cutaway gag from "Death Has a Shadow" appears.
- The "You Have AIDS" cutaway gag is mentioned and heard.
- The overreacting waiter from "Island Adventure" returns as a crossing guard, overreacting to Brian's Prius when it couldn't stop.
- When Peter calls Joe to try and figure out how to escape Cutawayland, he gets Joe's elaborate voicemail message for a bit until Joe picks up.
- The Robert Loggia cutaway gag from "Peter's Two Dads" appears.
- Decapitation Presentation: While the family is debating who should go kill Hitler in the first cutaway Meg comes from off-screen having already done it, boasting with his severed head how he pleaded for his life.
- Old Shame: Peter says he regrets making "You Have AIDS".
- Running Gag: When Peter and Lois explain the rules of CutawayLand, they are constantly interrupted by "Technical Difficulties" screens.
- Stylistic Self-Parody: At the beach, Peter flashbacks to one of his and Lois' makeout sessions, pointing out it was the first time he noticed she didn't have an ear; this is illustrated by brushing back her hair to show the earring is attached to nothing.
- Take That!: Against viewers who complain about the main plot of the episodes and say they just want more cutaways.
- Toilet Humor: This episode features Peter and Lois watching Wreck-It Ralph 3: Ralph Breaks the Toilet. What follows is a scene where Ralph leaves the men's restroom. Pac-Man walks in, then walks back out in disgust before dying.
- Where It All Began: In order to escape Cutaway Land, the Griffins must travel back to the first ever Cutaway Gag and kill Hitler.
