Recap / Family Guy S 11 E 6 Lois Comes Out Of Her Shell

Go To

Airdate: November 25, 2012

Depressed over growing older (and upset when Peter recites an insensitive poem about her aging), Lois has a midlife crisis, where she becomes the wild party girl she once was and sets out to have sex with pretty boy pop singer, Justin Bieber. Meanwhile, Stewie gets a pet turtle who's out to kill him.

"Lois Comes Out Of Her Shell" provides examples of (YMMV goes here!)

  • Accidental Hero: By replacing Meg's sleeping pills with alka-seltzer, Sheldon just may have saved her life.
  • Appeal to Obscurity: This exchange between Brian and Stewie:
Stewie: Justin Bieber is so yesterday. I'm all about Quentin Vashay now.
    Brian: Who's Quentin Vashay?
    Stewie: Exactly.
  • Ax-Crazy: Sheldon is one psychotic turtle.
  • Before My Time: Bieber doesn't get the references to The Graduate and American Pie.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Sheldon is about to finally kill Stewie, but then he's jumped on by Mario.
Stewie: Oh, my God, Super Mario? What are you doing here?
Mario: I jump on a turtles, Stewie. It's not an exciting life, but it's my life.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: Lois and two other girls she hangs with in the dance clubs.
  • Bowdlerization: The following scenes were cut/altered between the TV version and the DVD version:
    • Peter's crass poem about Lois' age: on the TV version, Peter thanks Lois for "...let[ting] her husband horse-slap a batch at her now and then." On the DVD version, Peter thanks Lois for "...let[ting] her husband horse-slap a batch into her now and then."
    • The scene of Peter having sex with Lois in the basement: On TV, Peter gets confused and says, "Oh, so you mean the front." On DVD, Peter gets confused and says, "Oh, so you want me to do you in the front." The DVD version also has the sounds of Peter and Lois having sex in the basement go on longer, including Peter telling Lois, "I'm going to do you through the plastic basket holes."
    • Lois and her friends going crazy for Justin Beiber at his concert has an extra line in the DVD version that Lois says: "Now let's get back to screaming at this child in a way that reminds all men why we can never be President."
  • Bungled Suicide: Meg tries to kill herself by overdosing on sleeping pills, but Stewie's homicidal pet turtle replaces them with Alka-Seltzer tablets, so instead of dying, she lets out a long burp.
  • Comically Small Bribe: Lois gets into Justin Bieber's dressing room by bribing the guard with Pinkberry.
  • Disposable Vagrant: Downplayed. Peter and Lois run over a homeless person during a Good-Times Montage, but Peter still feels the need to burn man's body along with the Jeep they're driving to hide the evidence.
  • Deus ex Machina: Mario shows up out of nowhere just to stomp on Sheldon, saving Stewie in the process.
  • Gainax Ending:
Peter Griffin: Ladies and Gentleman, Mr. Conway Bieber.
  • A Handful for an Eye: Stewie throws baby powder in the turtle's eye to gain an upper hand in their fight.
  • Hollywood Mid-Life Crisis: The plot focuses on Lois going through a mid-life crisis. She starts speaking in l33t and text message abbreviations, wears skimpy clothes, gets a lot raunchier with Peter, and culminates with her trying to have sex with Justin Bieber. As expected, Lois is back to her old self by the end of the episode.
  • Immodest Orgasm: Lois and Peter (after she seduces him) are overheard getting it on loudly in the laundry room. Chris, Meg, Brian and Stewie are not clearly impressed by what they hear coming from the laundry room.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Peter starts out as a jerkass, but eventually turns into this in the end. Brian was this because he suggested a party and called Peter out on his jerkassery. Lois too.
  • Mrs. Robinson: Invoked. Lois is trying to seduce Justin Bieber and she refers to herself as Mrs. Robinson. Justin misses the reference.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Lois, more than usual. Her new look is really sexy with a skimpy outfit and different hairstyle. She has also a scene where she seduces Peter with Godiva Hair and wearing only her panties.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: Lois calls herself Mrs. Robinson in front of Justin Bieber, but he fails to get the reference. She then tries Stifler's mom, but he's too young to know that one either.
  • Reptiles Are Abhorrent: Sheldon, the Ax-Crazy turtle.
  • Shout-Out: Super Mario saves Stewie from Sheldon, saying he jumps on turtles for a living.
  • Stylistic Suck: Conway Bieber's hair is intentionally superimposed on poorly.
  • Suddenly Obvious Fakery: Peter constructs a very elaborate fake grocery store to get Lois out of the house so his family can prepare her birthday party. The scene then cuts to Lois running around in a seemingly real store, but when she tries to grab the pickles, all the backdrops fall over and she's in the middle of the desert. Even the employee she was talking to a second ago is revealed to be a cardboard cutout and falls over when she tries to ask what's going on.
  • Take That!:
    • When Lois sees a younger mother playfully toss her child up in the air, Lois tries the same with Stewie and ends up dropping him due to some back problems. Getting hurt by this leads Stewie to promptly say to her: "Nice throw, Casey Anthony!".
    • Lois and another concertgoer note that Justin Bieber is the perfect guy because he looks like a boy and a girl.

Peter and Lois Do It

While Peter and Lois are getting it on in the laundry room, their children Meg and Chris (and their dog Brian) can hear everything that's going on, and are very disgusted.
