Recap / Facing The Future Series Episode 14 Two For One

Go To

As Tucker starts preparations for his mayoral campaign, Vlad finally makes his move, capturing Danny with intent to harness his Super Mode for his own purposes. As Danny finds himself in his subconscious, he encounters the most unlikeliest of beings, and must come to grips with it if he is to have any hope of escaping and finally mastering his 'True Ghost Form'.

Tropes appearing in this story:

  • Anything but That!: Being Forced to Watch through Dark Danny's eyes as he destroyed mirrors representing Tucker, Valerie, and the Fentons was hard enough for Ghost Danny, but it was when a mirror representing Sam came out that caused him to give out a Big "NO!".
  • Battle in the Center of the Mind: Danny ends up in one against his ghost half when he tries to take over. Fortunately, Danny is able to fight back by using his subconscious to generate weapons.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: At the end of the story, after Skulker accidentally triggers the defense system of Vlad's lab and finds himself in a proverbial hard place, Skulker gives out one of Vlad's sugarry remarks of annoyance.
    Skulker: Oh, buttertarts.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Vlad has this after one of the Maddie holograms makes a remark that without Danny's friends, he'd be helpless, which inspires him to kidnap Danny.
  • Face Palm: Danny is mentioned doing this in the poster depicting Tucker reusing his 'Victory Through Technology' platform.
  • Get a Room!: Towards the end of the story, Valerie tells Danny and Sam to go find a closet when they go into their Make-Out Kids routine.
  • Heal It with Water: This story establishes that after using his 'True Ghost Form', Danny ends up becoming winded to the point that he needs at least an entire bottle of water to regain his strength.
  • Hypocritical Humor: At the end of the story, when Sam still refuses to let Jazz off the hook for not mentioning that Vlad was behind the scenes, Danny manages to convince her to forgive Jazz by pointing out that she doesn't plan to tell her parents about her ghost powers any time presently.
  • Motive Misidentification: Initially, the Maddie holograms thought that Vlad's intention was to learn how much of a threat Danny had become with his 'True Ghost Form'. Vlad corrected them, saying his intention was to turn Danny's new power into an asset.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: For the majority of the story, Sam felt this way towards Jazz, believing Vlad got the drop on Danny mainly because she didn't mention he had been behind Walker's attack back in "Laws of Attraction".
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Thanks to Vlad, Danny was finally able to get control of his 'True Ghost Form'.
  • No Plans, No Prototype, No Backup: Averted. Despite his Spectral Energy Neutralizer box being destroyed in "A Family Thing" when Danny broke out of it using his True Ghost Form, this story reveals that Vlad has more than one.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!:
    • This is Danny and Sam's general reaction to Tucker reusing his 'Victory Through Technology' platform for his mayoral campaign.
    • All of Team Phantom reacts this way when they see that Danny has gone into his Super Mode again...until they see that he's in control of it.
  • One True Love: The narration mentioned that Ghost Danny saw Sam as this, meaning it was also the same for Danny. An image of Sam also said that Danny was the love of her life.
  • Removed Achilles' Heel: As of this episode, Skulker's new armor is proved to be resistant to Tucker's hacking, thanks to Technus' influence on it.
  • The Reveal:
    • The reason Vlad had been behind Walker and Aargon's actions was in order to push Danny and try to get him to bring out his 'True Ghost Form'.
    • It's revealed that Danny's ghost half actually has sentience due to being built on him. Also Danny's Super Mode is called a 'True Ghost Form' where he becomes 100% ghost.
    • 'G' is revealed to be a half-ghost hybrid and has a True Ghost Form as well, along with a strange animosity against Vlad.
  • Season Finale: Originally not Aaron12's intentions, but after several readers commented that the story had this kind of feel to it, he just went with it.
  • Something We Forgot: At the end of the story, when Vlad has been thwarted and Danny has full control of his 'True Ghost Form', Valerie asks the rest of Team Phantom if it feels like they'd forgotten something. Sure enough, the scene cuts to Skulker, who wasn't seen after 'G' drove him off, rooting through Vlad's abandoned lab...only to accidentally trigger its defense system.
  • Split-Personality Takeover: Tired of being seen like a burden to Danny, his ghost half attempted to do this. However, once Danny reminded him that without his humanity, he would end up becoming like Dark Danny, he convinced to instead go with a Split-Personality Merge.
  • Tempting Fate: After his first session with Tanya, Tucker comments that if his entire campaign is going to be like that, he'd almost rather get caught in the middle of a ghost attack. Cue Skulker appearing and blasting at the group while Danny and Sam glare at Tucker.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Vlad has this reaction when he realizes that Danny is in control of his 'True Ghost Form', just before he delivers a punch to his face.
  • Villain Opening Scene: Much like with "Kindred Spirits", the story opens with Vlad and his Maddie programs surveying footage of Danny.
  • Wham Episode: Danny gets control of his 'True Ghost Form' while 'G' is revealed to be half-ghost, and has a mysterious grudge against Vlad.
