Question from game critics: What happens to the people whose lives are ruined by video games?
The hype & hysteria around the game addiction hide the real problems within that actually damages the community within.
Addressing the hype around this topic.
- 1. There is no epidemic of people dying from playing too much video games.
- 2. Gaming is not addictive, they compel people instead
- 3. Gaming compulsion can exist & still not make games evil
- 4. Gaming compulsion doesn't exist in isolation
Game compulsion towards children
- Usually, media often hypes about games being harmful to children (although the compulsion aspects is true, but not the extent of how the media brings up)
- Blaming games (and television) for making children addicted to them also shines upon the lack of parental responsibility, which parents basically use them as a baby sitter.
- A solution is to get your kids to have a healthy relationship with your parents, contact with them when you are playing games, making a bonding experience to parent & children.
Gaming community could also be a major player in solving game compulsion among children, since they love games and are experienced towards games.
