Carter's worst nightmare.

Zoe visits Eureka, people appear to turn into stone, and Dr Grant's cover may be in danger.

Tropes

  • Actor Allusion: Keegan Connor Tracy appears alongside fellow Battlestar Galactica (2003) alum James Callis, although they don't share any scenes.
  • "Blackmail" Is Such an Ugly Word: Zane isn't blackmailing anyone. He's simply asking for fair compensation for the difficult and dangerous business of hacking the DOD. In the form of expensive lab equipment.
  • Broken Pedestal: Zoe is unhappy to learn that her former paleontology teacher, Dr Thergood, made a fake fossil to plant at a construction site to help his career.
  • Call-Back:
    • SARAH and Andy's relationship is still on, as Jo complains to Carter, "Your house is getting more action than either of us!"
    • Jo's house being destroyed in The Story of O2 comes up when construction of her new house is slowed down by the apparent discovery of a significant fossil.
    • The threat of being sanctioned, established in A New World, becomes a problem for Dr Grant as someone is examining his faked personnel file.
    • Beverly returns and is up to no good again for the first time since A Night in Global Dynamics.
  • Do Not Try This at Home: Allison injects the serum to slow down Zoe's petrification into her subclavian artery as the process has already rendered her other arteries inaccessible. She then tells her patient, "When you're a doctor, don't ever do that."
  • Failed a Spot Check: The attention on Dr Grant's file appears to be explained when Zane finds out that Larry, who Fargo delegated some of Dr Grant's paperwork to, accidentally listed 11 dependents instead of 1.
  • Hoist by Their Own Petard: Dr Thergood's tweaking of his "perm" formula to fake fossils results in him, and several others, being turned to stone. They're revived, but likely traumatised and his career will presumably suffer.
  • Intimidating Revenue Service: Inverted. Dr. Grant and the others are relieved when the attention on Grant's personnel records appears to be explained by an IRS audit, as they likely wouldn't care that he's from the 40's.
Zane: Well, you've got some real badasses after you.
Jo: Who is it? FBI? CIA?
    Zane: IRS.
  • Let's Just Be Friends: Allison to Carter. Defied when seconds later Carter kisses her and she responds enthusiastically.
  • Offscreen Breakup: Apparently Zoe and Lucas aren't together anymore.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Dr Grant goes on quite the emotional roller coaster regarding his fake identity. First someone at the NSA appears to be paying close attention to his file. Then, just when that appears to be explained by a simple typo, someone sends him a message that they know he's from 1947 and inviting him to a meeting.
    • Carter is naturally shattered when Zoe starts to petrify.
  • Ship Tease: Zoe and Zane flirt intensely, much to Jo and Carter's horror.
Jo: Zoe asked me advice about her new guy. Her new guy is my old guy?!
  • Shout-Out:
    • Someone is investigating Dr. Grant's personnel file, and he and Fargo want to know who, but Fargo says that trying to hack the DOD would be "like trying to hack The Matrix." Jo replies that, in that case, they need "the One," a.k.a. Zane.
    • Summoned to Fargo's office, Zane comments, "curiouser and curiouser" to see that Jo and Dr Grant are there also, and the anti-eavesdropping equipment is running.
    • When hacking the NSA, Zane offers to grab other stuff while he's at it, including TARDIS blueprints.
  • Spotting the Thread: After hacking the NSA to find out who's checking Dr Grant's backstory, Zane takes a closer look and realises his identity is fake as it's too bland.
  • Taken for Granite: Several people are turned to stone, including Zoe.
  • They Would Cut You Up: With someone at the NSA examining his (faked) file, Dr Grant is concerned about being "sanctioned" as an illegal time traveler and potentially experimented on.
  • Wham Line: Larry delivers a gift basket that has been sent to Dr Grant, which includes a bottle of wine. He reads off the vintage: 1947.
  • Wham Shot:
    • Zoe holds up her hands to show that her fingers are turning to stone.
    • Dr Grant arrives at his mysterious meeting, which turns out to be with Beverly Barlowe.
