It's not Eureka until the biohazard suits come out.

Carter: I swear to God, if this thing turns into a zombie attack, I am quitting.

Global Dynamics is falling victim to a zombie outbreak! Or is it? Carter, Stark and Taggart must make their way through the locked-down building to find answers.

Meanwhile, Zoe throws a party.

Tropes

  • Actor Allusion: When the possibility of a zombie outbreak is discussed, Taggart says, "You want every single second," a reference to Matt Frewer's role in Dawn of the Dead (2004).
  • Bitter Sweet Ending: Kevin is saved and no one is harmed by the faked Contamination Situation, but Henry is in custody and Beverly escaped. Allison and Stark are engaged, but that could go either way.
  • Bookends: Phoenix Rising ended with Carter and Henry together in Henry's garage.
  • Contamination Situation: Global Dynamics has been contaminated with a flesh-eating bacteria that mutated from the gold-eating disease of All That Glitters. Until it's revealed that Henry faked the whole thing to clear out the building and allow him to get Kevin to the S.R.T.
  • Destructive Teleportation: The Subatomic Reconstructive Transport, or S.R.T., is the Director's emergency exit from GD. Henry and Beverly want to use it to separate Kevin from the Artefact.
  • Draw Aggro: Carter, Stark and Taggart are pinned down by a "motion-activated photon defense array" (laser gun) controlled by the GD security system. Carter draws its fire so the other two can disable it, although Carter ends up taking care of that with a reflective shield.
  • Hypocrite: Beverly claims she wants to take Kevin to stop others from abusing his connection with the Artifact, but wants to use it herself.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Fargo fails to be tactful when assessing the team's chances of survival.
    Fargo: That's a motion-activated photon defense array. They're screwed!
Carter, Stark & Taggart: [Over radio] We can hear you!
    Fargo: Sorry.
  • Internal Reveal: Having seen Beverly at GD, Carter confronts Stark, who explains that Kevin has been altered by the Artefact and will die unless they're separated.
  • Karma Houdini: After Kevin is saved, Beverly uses the S.R.T. to teleport to an unknown location.
  • Must Make Amends: Henry confesses to faking the Contamination Situation to get at Kevin. The episode ends with him being taken into custody.
  • Shout-Out: Taggart says the GD defense system "has made one of the classic blunders; never go up against an Australian when death is on the line!" a reference to The Princess Bride.
  • That Came Out Wrong: Jo gets one of these when Fargo and Zane argue over hacking the GD security system.
Zane: We'll use SARAH to slip into the back-door of GD.
    Fargo: Uh, we?
Zane: Once a back-door link is established, there's nothing I won't have access to.
Fargo: Uh, I think you mean there will be nothing that I won't have access to.
Jo: Boys! There's plenty of back door access for everyone. [Beat] That didn't come out right.
  • The Nose Knows: Taggart manages to get the group back with his sense of smell.
  • Obstructive Bureaucrat: Averted. Jo convinces General Mansfield to listen to her and to drop the protocols.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: The GD security system fakes Fargo's voice to fight back against the real Fargo's intrusions into its systems. Taggart realises this when "Fargo" refers to him as Tag, which only Jo calls him.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Both Allison and Stark ask Henry why he went to such extraordinary lengths, when either of them would have been on board with any plan to save Kevin. He retorts both times that he would have, if they hadn't intentionally and methodically frozen him out to protect Kevin from being exploited.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Carter's fear of heights is introduced when he and Stark have to climb down an elevator shaft to reach the Director's office.
Stark: We’ll have to climb the rest of the way down.
Carter: Yeah, you should probably let me go first.
    Stark: Why?
    Carter: Heights make me nauseous.
    Stark: After you.
