Sometimes "impossible" explains everything.

Tropes

  • An Arm and a Leg: According to Dr. Hendricks, this is the only way to free Jo and Zane from the Instantanium foam.
Carter: How do we get them out?
Dr. Hendricks: You get a saw.
Carter: Great! SO you can just cut through it?
Dr. Hendricks: No. You, uh, cut through their legs.
    Carter: Ah. Yes.
  • Call-Back: The stuff Zoe slipped on in Phased and Confused was in fact the same stuff that killed the bunker scientists by ageing them to death, and now it's happening to Zoe.
  • Chained Heat: Jo and Zane are stuck together when a device containing expanding metal foam goes off near them. As they're already fighting over Zane's reluctance to commit, they're not happy.
Jo: [Answering Zane's phone] Dr. Bonehead's lab.
Carter: Let me guess, you two are still stuck together?
Jo: Just until I can reach my gun.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Eva Thorne was an original Eureka founder involved in the development of the atomic bomb. During the tests a byproduct dubbed "Element X" was created, causing the other scientists involved, including her brother, to age and die within a month, while the speed of Thorne's ageing slowed exponentially.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Eva Thorne's own demolitions expert advised that rushing him was a mistake, as improperly-placed devices could cause seismic issues throughout the area. Concerned that Jack and Co. will keep investigating the bunker, Thorne orders him to detonate one day early, despite knowing the vat of Element X could rupture into the water supply.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Lampshaded by General Mansfield.
General Mansfield: It's fascinating, you know. You've created a problem so big the solution is to detonate an atomic bomb.
Zane: I know, right? How cool is that?
  • "No Peeking!" Request: Fargo and Carter need to browse through Fargo's laptop and Fargo asks Carter to turn around while he looks at some "personal photos". Carter complies, but later peeks and sees that the "personal photos" are just funny cat memes.
  • Older Than They Look: Eva Thorne is actually over one hundred years old. The substance that killed her brother had the opposite effect on her.
  • Rapid Aging: The bodies found in the bunker were scientists whose attempt to create an atomic bomb created a by-product, Element X, that aged them to death within a month. After being exposed to the same substance, Zoe begins to age prematurely and will soon die without a cure.
  • Secret Chaser: Jack and Co., especially once Zoe's life is on the line.
  • Shout-Out: The title obviously references From Here to Eternity.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: Downplayed. After Zoe is cured, the team manages to prevent radiation from getting into Eureka's groundwater, Zane and Jo have made up, and even Eva Thorne gets a happy ending of sorts, everything seems to be fine - only for Carter to be fired by Mansfield in the last second.
  • Toilet Humor: As the Jo/ Zane Chained Heat situation continues, obvious practical matters are discussed.
Jo: God, what if I have to go to the bathroom?
Zane: Why do you think I'm working so fast? I had four cups of coffee this morning.
  • Water Source Tampering: The vat of Element X is broken by the attempt to destroy the facility, and leaks into the groundwater, which would poison the town.
