Recap / Ed, Edd n Eddy S5E10 "Who's Minding the Ed?"

Go To

When Rolf goes to his family reunion, he puts Ed in charge of his animals.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Accidental Truth: The bit at the end when Ed asks Rabbit Double-D to "purr like a bunny"; while just a joke about how stupid Ed is, presumably thinking about cats instead, rabbits do in fact make a purring noise when content, just much quieter than cats do. A moot point of course, since Double-D is neither a real bunny, nor the least bit content.
  • Blatant Lies: "No animals here, o' cramped-in-my-rump sister of mine."
  • Brutal Honesty: Edd tries to gently and slowly tell Ed that Rolf returned early and took his animals back, but Eddy decides to immediately come forward with him on the news in an blunt fashion, causing Ed to become sad and break down crying floods of tears.
  • Butt-Monkey: Eddy spends the majority of the episode getting the crap kicked out of him by Rolf's animals.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: What Ed considers gently petting an animal looks painful.
  • Impossibly Tacky Clothes: The outfit Rolf's wearing to go to his family reunion. Lampshaded by Eddy.
  • Ironic Echo: When Eddy tells Double D to think of some way to get them out of the situation of Ed taking care of Rolf's animals, Double D instead tells him that they have an obligation to make Ed happy and support him. When Eddy dresses up Double D in a bunny suit so Ed will roughly pet him, Double D begs Eddy not to leave him, only for Eddy to tell him he can't because he has an "obligation".
  • Jerkass Ball: Double D seemed more concerned about keeping Rolf's animals hidden from Sarah than the numerous Amusing Injuries Eddy suffered in the episode.
  • Jerkass Has a Point:
    • She may not have been nice about it, but Sarah was right when she told Ed he couldn't keep a bunch of farm animals in the house, especially in the kitchen.
    • Eddy's anger towards the animals is perfectly justified, given the fact that they keep subjecting him to Amusing Injuries throughout the episode.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Eddy stuffs Double D into a bunny suit and leaves him to be hugged to death by Ed, both as a way of making the big oaf feel better and getting back at Double D for being callous toward Eddy's suffering at the hands of Rolf's animals.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Eddy lampshades roles in the show when Ed is entrusted with Rolf's animals and says, "Okay, Sockhead, now's the part where you think of some way of getting us out of this weird situation. Go for it!"
  • No Sympathy: Double D is completely unmoved by the beating Eddy takes throughout the episode, even showing annoyance when Eddy calls him out on it near the end.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Sarah is saying on the phone to Jimmy, "Don't worry about it, Jimmy! Just keep it dry and whatever you do, don't scratch it..."
    • Rolf's family reunion apparently ended early due to a fight breaking out.
  • Ocular Gushers: Once Rolf shows up to take back his animals, Ed begins sobbing uncontrollably, whilst holding numerous snapshots he apparently took with them.
  • Pet the Dog: Eddy thinks of a way to for Ed to spend time with an animal - by giving him Double D, dressed up in a rabbit onesie.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Eddy is a total Butt-Monkey for most of the episode, but he ends up winning in the end. Granted, we don't know if his scam actually made any profits, but it's implied that he was more concerned with giving Double D his Just Desserts than actually making money.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Ed continuously making so much racket while playing with Rolf's animals, despite knowing that Sarah will hear them and come stomping down to look for them.
  • "What Now?" Ending: It's up to the viewer to decide if Eddy made any profits off his newest scam "Pet the Bunny", especially considering how unlikely it is that anyone but Ed is dumb enough to think Double-D is a real bunny.
