Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 4 E 25 Take This Ed And Shove It

Go To

The "Panda Eddy" scam fails because the neighborhood children find it babyish. Double D helps Eddy see that the Cul-de-Sac kids are growing up, and when he mentions the kids will decide on careers, Eddy comes up with a career counseling scam to decide on careers for the kids. However, Eddy has no desire to grow up and mature, and no sooner does he decide on this than he dreams that he and all the kids are extremely old.

Tropes

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Still upset about realizing that he really is old, old!Eddy insults old!Ed when he attempts the "Pull My Finger" gag on him. At this, old!Double D starts to laugh and wheeze at his insult; cue the other Ed's laugh wheezing as well.
Eddy: (annoyed) I still wish I was a kid.
  • Ambiguous Situation: It's unclear whether or not the future seen in this episode is the Eds' actual future or if it's just Eddy's hallucination. Given the events of Big Picture Show contradicts some of the characterizations of the future Cul-de-Sac kids with how they end off in regards to the Eds in the movie, it may retroactively be the latter.
  • Babies Ever After: In a Deleted Scene, Eddy finds out he and the other Eds are married to their respective Kankersnote , honeymooned in the junkyard and had lots of kids.
  • Bittersweet Ending: It turns out the entire series was nothing more than Eddy's childhood memories. Eddy's still not happy about getting/being old, but the ending at least shows that he and the other two Eds are still close friends well into their twilight years (old!Double D even states at one point that he, Ed and Eddy haven't been kids in over 90-years).
    • On a side note, they do succeed in getting their jawbreakers out of the locked desk before Eddy wakes up again, so at least that's something.
Ed: (after successfully sawing the desk in half) Who's up for jawbreakers?
  • Carpet of Virility: Kevin shows Rolf his one chin hair, calling it a beard. Rolf scoffs and shows him his hairy back, which makes Kevin want to heave.
  • Glasses of Aging: Kevin is shown wearing glasses as an old man.
  • Growing Up Sucks: Eddy's view on growing up. Given what we see of his potential future, it's hard not to blame him.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Believing that she's an actual doctor, Nazz takes the Eds' jawbreakers and locks them in a desk because she thinks that candy is bad for them, which leads to the Eds having to unlock the desk.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: When the jawbreakers are freed at the end of the episode, Eddy only takes one, and leaves the other two for Ed and Double D, when he could've easily taken all three.
  • Literal-Minded: Jonny takes his job of being a gofer literally by pretending to be a gopher.
  • Modern Stasis: The show is set in an Ambiguous Time Period, but even after 90 years since the Eds have been kids, the technology and architecture of the Cul-De-Sac hasn't changed at all (apart from Double D having had a clapper light installed).
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!: Denied his dream job of being a barber, Rolf converges on Ed and Edd with a very large bicep sticking out while uttering threateningly:
    Rolf: Rolf. is. A BARBER!
Ed: (looking at Rolf's arm) Party at Rolf's house!
  • Series Fauxnale: This was the original series finale, but the series went back into production almost a year afterwards.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Edd is not particularly impressed when Eddy and Ed misunderstand his attempts to show Jimmy is maturing when he trades out his tricycle for a new bicycle.
Ed: Do not taunt the trike, Double D.
Eddy: Yeah, what'd the trike ever do to you?
Edd: (deadpan) ...I'm conversing with puerile imps.
  • Worm Sign: Jonny as a gopher leaves tunnels all over the cul-de-sac. At one point he ends up carrying away the desk with the jawbreakers.

Rolf Mutated!

It's just back hair, Ed.
