Recap / Ed Edd N Eddy S 4 E 24 Postcards From The Ed

Go To

Plank's parents are in town to see the sights (or so Jonny claims) and after Ed humorously offers to be their tour guides, Eddy begins to smell scam potential.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Ancient Egypt: The episode starts with the Eds using an Egyptian Mummy themed scam on the kids.
  • Call-Back:
  • Downer Ending: Jonny and Plank are distraught due to the parents being decapitated while the Eds gets stuck in a tree thanks to Ed feeling terrorized by the wood mafia.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: While acting as a 'tour guide' Eddy tells Plank's 'parents' Jimmy has a diaper rash problem. This causes a hurt Jimmy to think Sarah has told Eddy about his problem. This implies Jimmy asked Sarah to keep it a secret and she goes behind his back. This is one of the very extremely rare moments Jimmy gets mad at Sarah and he had every right to be because Sarah betrayed his trust. But it can be argued Eddy made it up and was unintentionally correct, especially how Eddy made up everything else he said during the tour.
  • Hawaiian-Shirted Tourist: Eddy wears the one he previously used for his Hawaiian Dance Lesson scam for his scam on Plank’s parents, though really he's more like the aggressive shopkeeper peddling useless knickknacks and souvenirs to them.
  • Hypocritical Humor: It's rich how Jonny whose pal Plank is just a piece of wood he drew a face on (and very much likely the same is true for Plank's parents) states the box of an eyeball Edd is wearing from The Sphinx is just drawn on. Possibly subverted, considering that in the movie heavily implies Plank has been alive this entire time.
  • Jerkass Ball: This episode is a low point, even for Eddy. While he does think of Plank as "just a piece of wood", the fact that he shows absolutely no remorse for killing his parents feels ridiculously mean-spirited. note  To be fair, he thought they are non-living hunks of wood and not living people.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Relating to the Never My Fault section, Eddy points out that Plank's "people" are just hunks of harmless wood and that Double D playing along is making this harder on them.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: The Eds (primarily Eddy in this case) at the end being surrounded by the wood mafia.
  • Losing Your Head: Eddy accidentally ends up breaking Plank's parents in half, resulting in it looking like they lost their heads.
  • Mummy: Ed, wrapped in toilet paper, plays the mummy of King Tukyourshirtin in the Eds' Egypt scam; however, he arrives late and is not in the sarcophagus when Eddy opens it for the tourists.
  • Never My Fault: In the end, Eddy blames Edd for taking in Plank’s parents as tour guides and ending with them being stuck in a tree with the wood mafia surrounding them when it was really his fault for stealing Plank’s parents for his own personal selfish greed and accidentally “killing” them that led to them being stuck in the tree as punishment.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently Jimmy has had diaper rashes and confided in Sarah about them.
  • Only Sane Man: Eddy, unlike his two friends and Johnny knows Plank's 'parents' and the 'Mafia tribe' at the end of the show are inanimate objects.
  • The Nose Knows: Using Ed's super sniffer, Double D is able to track Eddy's trail through his cheap cologne.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Eddy ditches his friends when they decide to play tour guide for Plank's parents. But he changes his mind when he thinks of the financial potential in being a tour guide.
  • Sneeze of Doom: Ed sneezes so hard he blows away the Ed's full-size cardboard box Sphinx.
  • Stepford Smiler: While Jonny tries to keep a cheerful demeanor while escorting Plank's parents, he later reveals how exhausted he is having to deal with their constant demands of sightseeing.
  • Take a Third Option: Eddy asks his usual ''Will that be Cash or Cash?'' question after totaling up the bill for the tour, though Jonny retorts that Eddy’s the one who’s paying since Plank knows people, ie, the wood mafia.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: The promo for this spoiled that Plank's parents ended up being decapitated by the monkey bars.
