"Now, this is what I call a vacation!"

Airdate: May 12, 2000

The Kanker Sisters have decided to go on holiday in Eddy's lawn and it is up to the Eds to find a way to get them to leave.

"Home Cooked Ed" includes examples of:

  • Astonishingly Appropriate Interruption: Eddy wants Ed to get rid of the Kankers after they try to make Edd do a photo shoot with them posing in Eddy's fish tank, but loses track of his original statement when he see's they've vanished when they weren't looking, and somehow left his pet fish as a bunch of swimming fish skeletons.
Eddy: Ed, do this; get rid of— (confused) my fish? (The Eds gape in astonishment at what's left of Eddy's fish)
Ed: Should I put them in a plastic bag?
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Jonny is usually one of the friendliest kids in the show, but he spends the whole episode stalking the Kankers and glaring angrily at them for stealing Plank and using him as a back-scratcher, even at one point grabbing Rolf and telling him and Kevin not to touch him. This reaches its climax at the end of the episode when he breaks into their trailer to save Plank, fighting all three of them and winning before sling-shooting their trailer away.
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Inverted. Lee gives a small one to May who won't stop whining for Marie to come flip her over.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Eddy, while cleaning the furniture that the Kankers were laying on, mutters "Filthy filthy filthy!" Ed comments that's normally what Double D would say.
    Eddy: Don't remind me.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Eddy states that he's going to his trailer after being lectured by Ed. Cue him walking face first into the Kankers' trailer home.
  • Call-Back: When creating rain, Edd says his "Summer rains, you can never predict them" line from "Read All About Ed".
  • Captain Obvious: Subverted. After the Kankers' trailer ends up on Kevin's trailer, Ed tries to tell him about it, but quickly realizes it's redundant.
Ed: (Breaking through the fence) Kevin, there's a-! (Sees Kevin trying to shove the trailer off the fence) Oh, I guess you already know.
  • Did Not Do the Bloody Research: Of a non-swear variety. The characters consistently use the term "holiday" to refer to the Kankers parking themselves on Eddy's lawn, the common language used in Canada where the series is produced. However, the show geographically takes place in the United States, which uses "vacation" as the usual vernacular.
  • Downer Ending: For the Eds, when it seemed they finally (and literally) threw the Kankers away, get them boomeranged back when Jonny slingshots them right back to the Eds, and so poor Edd and less-than-poor Eddy are forced to fight with Kevin over who gets the Kankers' trailer while Ed (who is ironically the strongest one of them) won't lend a hand and just stupidly watches in amazement. In addition, Eddy's furniture was destroyed by the Kankers' trailer.
  • Do Wrong, Right:
    • When Eddy accidentally runs Rolf's tractor into the house, he dares the others to be impressed. Ed is not.
Eddy: Woo-hoo! Demolition derby, boys! Cool crash huh, Ed?
      Ed: I’ve seen better Eddy.
      Eddy: What?
Ed: Look. The tractor is still intact. You could have done a lot more with the tree, and you hardly wrecked Kevin's fence. And the steering wheel should be rammed over your head like so. [Ed shoves his head through the steering wheel.]
Eddy: Oh, excuse me. I'm such a hack.
    • Later in the episode, after the Kankers chase the Eds out of Eddy's house and have their vacation there, making a mess of the place, Eddy says in anger how they are wrecking his house, only for Ed to respond "Amateurs, Eddy, don't make me laugh".
  • "Eureka!" Moment: When Double D mentions how the nice weather will guarantee the Kankers will be spending their vacation at his house for a long time, this gives Eddy the idea to get rid of the Kanker sisters by faking a storm.
Eddy: Summer's about to call it a day, Boys.
  • Furniture Blockade: The Eds use furniture to prevent the Kankers from entering Eddy's house. Unfortunately the Kankers already somehow got in and watch them barricade the door.
  • Hidden Depths: Ed is surprisingly articulate when describing how Eddy's tractor crash wasn't the best he'd seen.
  • Hope Spot: Just as the Eds get the Kankers off Eddy’s lawn, Johnny sends them back after rescuing Plank.
  • Hourglass Plot: Being paired up with Rambling Eds, that episode deals with the Eds becoming Rolf's house guests and quickly wearing out their welcome. This episode deals with the Kankers doing the same thing to the Eds when they set their trailer up on Eddy's front lawn.
  • Insane Troll Logic: "One + One = One on a bun!" Makes about as much sense as Ed's usual random utterances.
  • Kiss Diss: Played for Laughs with Ed and May. After Ed accidentally convinces the Kankers to start acting "lovey-dovey" with the Eds and they chase the Eds out of their trailer, May sticks her head out of the door and makes a kissy face at Ed, as if expecting him to give her a kiss before leaving. Instead, he slams the door in her face, leaving a silhouette of her kissing face in the screen, before running off with his friends.
    Ed: Flounder!
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After spending the episode breaking and entering, thieving, trespassing their trailer on someone else’s yard and attempting to do what is essentially PG-rated sexual assault, the Kankers get their comeuppance when the Eds artificially simulate bad-weather to end their good times, Jonny (who was rescuing Plank) kicks the crap out of them, they get sling-shotted all across the Cul-de-Sac and, in May’s case, end up horribly motion-sick.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The happy go lucky Jonny is bitter and serious since the Kankers stole his best friend and are using him as a back-scratcher.
  • Potty Emergency: The episode starts off with Rolf, covered in mud for some reason, speeding to the Eds' Service Station to use the restroom. Unfortunately, Eddy tells him the restroom is for paying customers only, so he is forced to pay for their services. Even worse for Rolf, the key to the bathroom is attached to a heavy radiator.
Rolf: May the fleas from your cow inflame your rhubarb!
  • Running Gag:
    • When Edd or Eddy say or do something reckless or dumb, Ed points out that it is something he really wanted to do.
    • One of the Eds pointing out "That's something I'd expect from _".
    • At some point Ed takes a liking to rhyming verses.
  • Rule of Three: The "That's something I'd expect from _" joke is done three times.
  • Shout-Out: Jimmy is seen pedaling against the Eds' giant fan in a method similar to the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz.
    Jimmy: My thighs! They're burning!
  • Silent Whisper: Edd does this when he explains the definition of "amorous"note  to Eddy, resulting in the panicked Eds fleeing the house.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: The main conflict of the episode involves the Eds trying to get the Kankers - who at this point have parked their trailer on Eddy’s lawn, broken into their houses, and stolen their things - to leave.
Eddy: Get out of my room!
Lee: Who’s going to make us?
  • Uncool Undies: While going through Eddy's stuff, Marie finds a pair of leopard skin underwear. All the Kankers and Ed laugh, while Edd states "That's quite a statement Eddy". Eddy tries to pass them off as his brother's, but Marie states that his name is on the tag.
  • Underwear Flag: When the Kankers manage to get inside Eddy's house and rummage through Eddy's room, Marie finds a pair of leopard skin underpants, much to Eddy's embarrassment. Afterwards, they decide to hang it up as a sign of taking over Eddy's home for the rest of their vacation.
  • [Verb] This!:
May: Give me back my backscratcher!
    Jonny: Scratch this!
  • Vomit Discretion Shot: May is implied to hurl when the trailer goes flying.
  • Would Hit a Girl: Jonny beats up all of the Kankers (albeit while off-screen) to rescue Plank from them. Then he sends them and their trailer flying with a makeshift slingshot.
  • You Just Had to Say It: This exchange:
Eddy: Why don't you Kankers get lost!
Ed: And forget about any lovey-dovey stuff.
    Kankers: (singsong) Lovey-dovey!
    Eddy: (frantic) Ed, you dolt!

"Filthy, Filthy, Filthy"

As Eddy mutters to himself while disinfecting his furniture that was lounged on by the Kanker sisters, Ed mentions that he's acting like Double D. Eddy would prefer if Ed didn't remind him.

How well does it match the trope?
