"I'm pleased to meet you, Jib!"

During the Eds' most recent efforts for a scam, Ed starts playing with an imaginary friend he names "Jib". Ed's antics with Jib threaten to disrupt their plans, so Eddy and Edd have to find a way to get rid of Jib.

Tropes

  • Agony of the Feet: In a fit of fury at his hatred for Jib, Eddy kicks a tree with predictable results.
  • Arch-Enemy: It's pretty clear that Jib has a disdain for Eddy considering his initial actions all disrupt Eddy's attempt to scam the other kids. And when Eddy tries to fight back, Jib relentlessly pummels him even after Eddy cries uncle. The feeling is mutual on Eddy's part, and he's vehemently glad when Jib leaves at the end of the episode.
  • Be the Ball: At the end of Eddy and Jib's brief fight, Jib shapes Eddy into a ball and dribbles him before shooting him basketball style into an open window.
  • But Now I Must Go: At the end of the episode, Jib leaves on a bus, with Ed saying "his work here was done". While the other kids are upset he's leaving, Eddy is more than happy he's out of his hair.
  • Butt-Monkey: Eddy's prize grabber scam is ruined completely by Jib, which gets him so stressed out he resorts to self-harm by kicking a tree and ramming into it. Then when he tries to get rid of Jib, he gets his ass completely handed to him by Jib, who beats the tar out of him.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Jib ends up totally thrashing Eddy after he tries to put him in a headlock after catching Jib with an invisible trap.
  • Hit Flash: What the screen turns to after Eddy hits Ed face-first with an invisible potato fired from an invisible slingshot.
  • Idiot Houdini: Averted with Ed, who, after making Eddy's entire day Hell thanks to his imaginary friend Jib, gets hit in the face by Eddy at the end of the episode.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Ed creates Jib and consequently slacks off instead of helping his friends with their scam and ends up sabotaging it by telling Jimmy that Jib says the prize grabber is a scam. At the end of the day, Jib leaves the Cul-de-Sac, reducing Ed to tears, and Eddy takes his revenge on Ed by nailing him in the face with an "invisible potato in an invisible slingshot".
  • Not-So-Imaginary Friend: What Jib turns out to be, which Eddy finds out the hard way. Jonny also doesn't believe that Plank is an imaginary friend, not even knowing what an imaginary friend is.
  • Oblivious to His Own Description: The Edds consult Jonny on how to deal with Jib, but he has no idea what they mean by "imaginary friend".
Edd: Ed has an imaginary friend. Can you help us?
    Jonny: Imaginary friend? What's that?
Eddy: (Standing next to Plank) C'mon, you know... an imaginary friend?
Jonny: Sorry, guys, but I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe Plank knows!
    Eddy: This is our expert?
  • Opinion Flip Flop: Eddy's reaction to Jib during the prize grabber scene.
    Ed: Jib made you presents!
    Kids: Presents?
    Eddy: (stunned) I hate Jib.
    Kevin: Cool, thanks, Jibbo.
Sarah: Isn't Jib the nicest kid you've ever met?
Jimmy: I'm so taken, I'm going to win you a prize, Jib.
Eddy: (happy) I love you, Jib!
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Sarah is surprisingly civil and amicable in this episode. The worst thing she does is joke that Ed came from a garbage truck, and even then there's a good-natured naivety to it that makes it sound like it's a lie her mother made that she believes. Other than that, she's perfectly accepting of Ed's imaginary friend Jib, tells Ed he's embarrassing her (in front of Jib) with relative mellowness and is even concerned when Eddy's getting beat up by Jib and asks what's happening to him.
  • Pre-Asskicking One-Liner: Eddy gives one to Ed at the end of the episode, after telling him he has an "invisible potato in an invisible slingshot".
    Ed: Where, Eddy?
Eddy: Don't blink! (Eddy lets go, and the screen shows a Hit Flash as Ed is hit with pain)
  • Revenge by Proxy: Eddy can't take revenge on Jib directly for what he did to him all day, aside from throwing all his things into the bus for him, so he settles on the next best thing and nails Ed, Jib's friend and creator, with an "invisible potato in an invisible slingshot".
  • Spanner in the Works: Ed at first turns into this when he keeps disrupting Eddy's scam playing with "Jib". First he slacks off to play with Jib, leaving only Eddy and Edd to build the prize-grabber machine for their scam. Then when the other kids attempt to use it, Ed makes them lose interest by giving them presents made by Jib. Then when Jimmy attempts to win a prize anyways as a gift of gratitude, Ed tells him outright that Jib said the machine is a scam trying to take his money. Edd even remarks how it seems impossible for them to accomplish anything with Jib around. After Jib is proven to be real, he becomes this instead.
  • Your Mind Makes It Real: After Jonny's suggestion to build an invisible trap, Eddy and Edd play along in hopes it'll deal with Jib. Not only do both it and Jib turn out to be real, but at the end of the episode, Eddy invokes this to get payback on Ed for creating Jib in the first place by hitting him in the face with an "invisible potato in an invisible slingshot".
