A busy but otherwise manageable day is made infinitely worse when it is revealed that two patients might have been infected with smallpox. As the hospital is placed under lockdown and the tension rises. Carter, Lewis, Abby, with the rest of E.R. must rise to the occasion.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Ambulance Chaser: Two lawyers who otherwise couldn't stand each other immediately begin trying to start a class-action lawsuit about the containment.
- Callback: Lewis has to use the old tannoy system to make an announcement.
- The Plague: A smallpox outbreak in the E.R!
- Wham Line: When Carter works out that it's smallpox that they're dealing with.
