Scrooge seeks to find out why his ships are disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle.
This episode contains examples of the following tropes:
- Benevolent Boss: When Scrooge goes looking for three cargo ships of his that have disappeared, he finds his crews being held prisoner (along with many others) on a bizarre seaweed island. Scrooge's captain tells him how hearing that he had arrived made them all feel hope for the first time in years, and they all had faith that, with him leading the way, they could escape (Scrooge doesn't let them down).
- The Bermuda Triangle: When many of Scrooge McDuck's ships were disappearing in the Triangle, He sets out to locate his fleet and finally finds it, along with other ships, trapped in a huge mass of seaweed.
- Foil: Captain Bounty is this to Scrooge. They are both heroic, larger-than-life characters, but where Scrooge is brave and decisive but prone to greed, Captain Bounty is altruistic but overly cautious. The two of them butt heads over the course of the episode but eventually learn to respect each other's outlook even though they'll never quite see eye to eye.
- I Choose to Stay: Captain Bounty ultimately decides to return to the seaweed island in the Bermuda Triangle and continue helping the crews who get shipwrecked there to survive.
- Living Is More than Surviving: While trying to take command and get the shipwrecked crews back to civilization, Scrooge criticizes Captain Bounty for taking away the crew's chance at getting home with his focus on survival. When Captain Bounty hears one of the crew say that they really would like to try to escape (though they are grateful he kept them alive all this time), he goes along with it.
- Wasteland Elder: The survivors of several shipwrecks end up on an island of seaweed with a settlement run by the middle-aged Captain Bounty. Bounty is a resourceful and altruistic leader, but also an over cautious one who doesn't devote as much attention to making it back to civilization as the others would like.
