Vegeta thought his humiliation was over when he abandoned Earth. He was wrong.

At long last, Goku and Vegeta face off! In spite of being possibly dumber than Nappa, Goku is able to fight evenly with his royal nemesis, driving the Saiyan Prince into a fury. That changes when Vegeta transforms into an Oozaru, squeezing Goku like a squeaky toy! Gohan and Krillin show up to help even the odds. With their combined efforts (Plus Yajirobe), they are able to cut off Vegeta's tail, and beat him badly enough for him to retreat.

In the vast coldness of space, Vegeta reflects on his failures, and finds himself dealing with a new terror...the Ghost of Nappa!

First three-part special

We're fan-friggin'-tastic! Nothing but tropes and ice cream in here:

  • Big "NO!": Vegeta gets two, first when Oozaru Gohan is about to crush him, then an epic one when Ghost Nappa shows up.
  • Brain Bleach: Vegeta compares the Solar Flare with seeing Freeza naked, realizes that Freeza is technically always naked, and gets even more disgusted.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Vegeta displays how "f*cking evil" he is by using his Galick Gun attack on Goku (and, by extension, Earth). Later, before he crushes Goku's legs as an Oozaru, he makes a tasteless joke as follows:
Vegeta: Hey, Kakarot! What's the opposite of Christopher Walken?
    Goku: Huh?
    Vegeta: CHRISTOPHER REEVE!
    (stomps on Goku's legs)
Goku: AAAAAGHHH!!! (moans in pain) That was in terrible taaaste!
    Vegeta: Don't care! Evil!
  • Call-Forward: Once more gaining the advantage, Vegeta says he plans to end the battle with a "Big Bang... kind of attack". He doesn't use the actual Big Bang Attack until much later.
  • Eye Scream: Vegeta is subject to this three times.
Vegeta: Why is it always the goddamn eye?!
  • Faster Than They Look: Goku assumed that Vegeta would lose speed after becoming an Oozaru. He was sorely mistaken.
Goku: He’s getting huge. That means he’ll only be stronger. That means he won’t be as fast— (Oozaru Vegeta punches a plateau Goku is standing on) Oh, God, he’s still as fast!
  • Hope Spot: In the aftermath of killing Nappa, Vegeta is so overjoyed by his death that he briefly considers sparing Earth.
Vegeta: He's gone! He's finally gone! I'm so happy right now, I might not even slaughter you all.
    Krillin: Really?
Vegeta: HA HA, ha, ho ho, oh, oh no, you're all thoroughly screwed.
    • And Krillin also gets hope when Gohan becomes the Oozaru, until it starts to go on a rampage.
Krillin: Yay! Gohan's transformed! He's gonna save us all!
      (Gohan starts smashing boulders)
Krillin: Oh no! Gohan's transformed! He's gonna kill us all!
  • I'm a Humanitarian: When Vegeta falls after the Spirit Bomb, but before he pops back up to end Part 2, Yajirobe offers to eat him.
Yajirobe: You gonna eat that Saiyan?
    Krillin: Wha—
    Yajirobe: Dibs!
  • Imagine Spot: Goku has one about him flipping and jumping away from Oozaru-Vegeta when he's actually too injured to do anything.
  • Interactive Narrator: When King Kai starts taking bets on whether Vegeta or Goku is going to win the battle, the narrator asks if he can get in the action.
  • Meanwhile, Back at the…: The scene where Bulma, Roshi, Chi-Chi, Ox King, and Oolong bemoan their Demoted to Extra status starts with "Meanwhile, back at the ranch..." and ends with "Meanwhile, back at the plot..."
  • Mood Whiplash: Vegeta brutally attacks Goku as he tries to encourage Gohan and the scene is not Played for Laughs... before it immediately cuts to happy, lighthearted eyecatches.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Goku's overall stupidity eventually causes Vegeta to scream in rage.
  • Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies: Vegeta very quickly gets tired of Goku's stupidity.
Vegeta: I will not stand for this! I will not be humiliated by a low-class wretch!
Goku: Aww, sounds like somebody's got an ice cream headache!
    Vegeta: THAT'S IT! EVERYONE DIES!
  • Running Gag: The "Kaio-Ken!/Kaio-What!" gag starts here.
  • The Scapegoat: Goku gets to Gohan in his Oozaru form by blaming Vegeta for killing their pet dragon Icarus.
Vegeta: Now that's bulls**t! I haven't killed a thing since I got to this God-forsaken planet!note  Not for lack of trying, mind you...
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Vegeta keeps getting up even after being blasted by Goku's Kaioken-boosted Kamehameha, Brought Down to Normal after getting his tail cut by Yajirobe, and shot down by the Spirit bomb thanks to Krillin and Gohan. Once he's crushed under Oozaru!Gohan, Vegeta's finally had enough.
Vegeta: Crushed and broken beneath an unconscious, naked child. Yup, I think I'm done here.
  • Something We Forgot: As the minor characters are gathered in Kame House and discusses their Demoted to Extra status:
Bulma: Remember when we used to do stuff? Y'know? Be out there with them? And help?
    [the others murmur in agreement]
Oolong: I remember the Red Ribbon Army.
    [the others murmur in agreement]
Roshi: And what about King Piccolo?
    [the others murmur in agreement]
Bulma: What ever happened to Launch?
    [beat, dead silence]
    Roshi: Who?
[cut to a drunk Launch hanging out in bar with a empty beer glass in her hand]
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Vegeta says this after he realizes that Goku doesn't understand his sarcasm.
  • Sequel Hook: The narrator flat-out states that, yes, the series will go on, haven't you seen the original?
  • Take That!: The first strikes from Oozaru!Vegeta make Goku think he's in the wrong story.
  • Taking the Fight Outside: Goku and Vegeta agree to move the battle elsewhere, with Vegeta adding that it's a bit "corpse-y" with Yamcha, Piccolo, and Tien's dead bodies lying about.
  • Tempting Fate: Vegeta, after leaving Earth, muses that it can't get any worse for him. Cue Ghost-Nappa.
  • Too Desperate to Be Picky: When Goku is unable to use the Spirit Bomb, he entrusts Krillin with it because he's the only one closest to him. Even Krillin is shocked when given this responsibility.
  • Tranquil Fury: Vegeta continues to persist in rage after being bested in a beam struggle and losing his tail and Oozaru form. It comes to the point where he "comes full circle", displaying an unusual calm when he once more thinks he is victorious.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Vegeta spends a lot of this episode driven into a rage by an idiot like Goku beating him. More setbacks like losing his tail and a giant Gohan crushing him do not help. Even as he manages to escape, he's still tormented by Ghost-Nappa which he does not take well.

Vegeta: They've broken my body... I've failed in my mission to find the Dragon Balls... I even lost my tail... but, at least... it can't get any worse... from here...
???: Vegeta... Vegeeeeeeeetaaa...
Vegeta: Wh-what?
Nappa: [appears as a ghost] I'mhauntingyou.
Vegeta: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
