Recap / Dragon Ball Z Abridged CV 5

Go To

Cell still has some waiting to do before the Cell Gamesnote  officially begin, but when a dusty wind starts blowing, Cell finds yet another uninvited guest coming to the ring, and this time it's Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star, specifically the Dub of the North Star version of the character.

Cell tries to engage in conversation, only to be thrown when Ken either doesn't reply to him, or replies in unexpected ways, such as Ken asking if he can eat Cell. Suddenly Ken starts his trademark shirt ripping Hulking Out, and launches one of the attacks from Hokuto Shinken. Cell appears unharmed and begins mocking Ken's attack, laughing as Ken says You Are Already Dead, only to abruptly explode... and then he almost immediately regenerates.

Cell, who is now angry, in pain, and determined to get revenge on Ken, makes a death threat towards the wandering hero. However, the video ends with Ken's attack causing Cell to explode a second time.

Tropes include:

  • Cloud Cuckoolander: Much like in Dub of the North Star, Kenshiro is this, mostly obsessed with finding food and eating.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Kenshiro wants to eat Cell, and he asks if Cell's meat would count as bug meat or man meat. While he notes that he doesn't care for man meat, he makes it sound like it's not completely off the table either...
  • Good Thing You Can Heal: Cell being blown to pieces by Kenshiro won't kill him, but it's still quite humiliating. And apparently painful as well.
  • Hope Spot: Cell blowing up is this, but unfortunately in a matter of seconds he regenerates.
  • Knuckle Cracking: Kenshiro does his trademark knuckle cracking as he stares down Cell.
  • Ludicrous Gibs: Cell explodes in the usual way any victim of Hokuto Shinken does after Kenshiro hits him with the Hokuto Hyakkuretsu Ken. Of course he puts himself back together due to Namekian DNA and his own From a Single Cell ability.
  • No Ending: The video abruptly ends after Kenshiro's attack causes Cell to explode a second time with no conclusion to the story. What happened afterwards (such as say whether the attack continued making Cell continue exploding enough times that Ken was able to get away, or if Cell simply regenerated again, flew high enough to be out of reach and then killed Ken with a ki blast, or whatever other possibility you might be inclined to think of) is left up to the imagination of the viewer.
  • No-Sell: Subverted, for the first time in the Cell vs series. Cell initially laughs off the Hokuto Hyakkuretsu Ken, comparing it to getting tickled and seeming to No Sellnote  it, only to abruptly explode as the effects of Ken's Pressure Point/Touch of Death attack suddenly manifest.
  • Offscreen Inertia: The short ends with Kenshiro's attack causing Cell to explode a second time, and it's left to our imagination how long this will keep up.
  • The Quiet One: Ken comes across this way at first, as he doesn't immediately answer Cell's attempts to talk to him, but just as soon as Cell starts to peg him as this, Ken begins talking, and Cell comes to realize that he's much stranger than Cell had thought.
  • Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs: Cell gets hit with the Hokuto Hyakkuretsu Ken, which he just shrugs off at first.
  • Sapient Eat Sapient: Kenshiro asks if Cell's bug meat or man meat, wanting to eat the parts of Cell that are bug meat. After Cell regenerates from his attack, Ken even casually asks Cell if Cell minds Ken eating one of Cell's severed arms.
  • Shout-Out: Cell calls Kenshiro "Road Warrior." Arguably doubles as a Mythology Gag, since Fist of the North Star took some inspiration from Mad Max, whose sequel film is called Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Even though Kenshiro is superhumanly strong and tough in his own series, he’s not nearly on the level of Cell or most of the characters found in Dragonball Z or the abridged series. His Supernatural Martial Arts knowledge, which allows him to poke pressure points and cause people to explode, turns out to work even on incredibly powerful characters such as Cell, allowing Kenshiro to level the playing field. At least as long as he can catch someone like Cell by surprise.
  • You Are Already Dead: Happens to Cell TWICE, (at least) and they're all painful for him.

Cell: Make it your last meal, because after that you're dead!
Kenshiro: No, you are. Already. Again. [Cell explodes]
