Recap / Dr. Crafty Season 1 Month 2: Gaming Month

Go To

Airing Range: 6/1/17 - 6/21/17

With introductions out of the way, Crafty and Nurse spend this month making art that commemorates some of Crafty's interests. Specifically, this month is centered around his favorite video games and video game characters of the 2010s; he and Nurse discuss their strong opinions about them.

Tropes Applicable to the Month as a whole:

  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Being the first traditional monthly theme of the show, Gaming Month is the most loosely defined. The only through-line its episodes share is that they all cover games released within the 2010s that Crafty enjoyed. The episodes in later themes exhibit more elements unifying them together, be it a more specific subject matter, a narrative, a recurring setup, a guest commentator, or all of these aspects at once.

Main Show E5: "A lovely day for Meihem!"

Air Date: 6/1/17

Frustrated by his lackluster success in Overwatch, Crafty decides to vent some stress by drawing his main three characters in the game: Junkrat, Mei, and Roadhog.

Tropes Found in This Episode:

  • Has a Type: This is the first episode of many in which Crafty discusses his taste in women. Based on the accolades that he gives Mei, it's clear that he has a special place in his heart for strong, responsible, and intelligent women. What he doesn't realize is that his praises for Mei apply to Nurse as well, something Nurse herself takes notice of; she soon giddily retreats into her quarters, leaving an oblivious Crafty behind.
Nurse: So how come you play Mei when your other mains are so unlike her?
Crafty: What can I say? There's something to be said about a woman of science and intelligence...
    Nurse: [blushing] O-Oh! Y-You, uh... don't say.
Crafty: Plus she has those healthy curves, and cute glasses, and is clearly capable of responsibly carrying a whole team herself.
    Nurse: G-Go on. Ahuhuhu~...
Crafty: Not to mention she's clearly a sadist.
    Nurse: Oh, Doctor, I—Wait, what?
Crafty: Oh yes! Think about it! Her core strategy is freezing her foes solid, which is torture at best, given what it takes to freeze a human body. But then she happily looks into your eyes before launching a three-foot spear of ice through your head, and then just cheerfully waves at your frigid corpse! Quite gruesome, I would have to say. I really love a woman that can be cute and deadly at the same time!
[The pressure becomes too much for Nurse.]
Nurse: I'll be in my bunk.
[Nurse darts away to her quarters.]
Crafty: Hm. I'll never understand that girl's malfunction.

Main Show E6: "ORA ORA ORARMS!"

Air Date: 6/8/17

Nurse finds Crafty mourning Little Mac's Nintendo career, and he takes time to illustrate why he's doing so: the simple fact that ARMS now exists. He draws a fight scene between Spring Man and Ribbon Girl while showcasing his extensive boxing knowledge.

Main Show E7: "IT'S YA BOI!!!"

Air Date: 6/14/17

Crafty becomes desperate to become hip with the kids, much to Nurse's chagrin. He decides to commemorate this plan by drawing up Team Skull's Guzma and Plumeria. He and Nurse discuss why Pokémon Sun and Moon's Team Skull is their favorite evil Pokémon Team.

Tropes Found in This Episode:

  • Didn't Think This Through: Crafty spends time ripping into Pokémon's villain teams throughout "IT'S YA BOI." When he reaches Team Plasma, he calls out Ghestis on his scheme of conning trainers into releasing their Pokemon. After all, from what Crafty can tell, there's nothing stopping said trainers from going out and catching new Pokemon to rebel against Ghetsis.

Main Show E8: "Kids or Squids"

Air Date: 6/21/17

To cap off the month, Crafty fanboys over one of his favorite games: Splatoon. He draws the male and female Inklings and discusses with Nurse why the game appeals to him so much.
