Go To

Original air date: 11/19/2006

It's Friendship Day, and friends from all over the world are celebrating parties and wearing special friendship bracelets. But when Swiper mistakenly swipes some bracelets not knowing their true purpose, Dora teams up with him to help deliver them back where they belong. Join them on a big adventure as they visit France, Tanzania, Russia, and China, as they meet new friends, learn new languages, stop their own Swipers from swiping the bracelets, and return the bracelets in time to save Friendship Day!

Tropes:

  • Alternate Species Counterpart: Swiper's foreign counterparts, Fifi, Sammy, Fomkah and Ying Ting, are a skunk, hyena, bear and weasel who all share his affinity for swiping things and his tendency to express his exasperation upon being stopped.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Fomkah, Swiper's Russian counterpart.
  • Continuity Nod: Dora, Swiper, and Vladimir had to make silly faces to make the Russian Troll laugh to get access to the Winter Palace, just like how they made the Grumpy Old Troll laugh in "The Super Silly Fiesta".
  • Exposed to the Elements: Done briefly with Dora after arriving in Russia, as she is able to stand the cold weather in her African dress before changing into her Russian snowsuit.
  • Extra-Long Episode: The fourth in the series.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: After Dora, Swiper and Vladimir manage to make the Russian Troll laugh enough for him to let them past the gate, there is a conspicuous snowman outside the Winter Palace. Not long after, it turns out to be Swiper's ursine counterpart Fomkah in disguise.
  • Flat Character: Fifi, Sammy, Fomkah and Ying Ying, Swiper's foreign counterparts, are literally borderline carbon copies of him, save for the fact that they are different animals and utter a phrase in the local language synonymous to his "Oh, man!" phrase. Although, Vladimir does mention that Fomkah likes to dance.
  • Foreign Cuss Word: Fifi's "Alors, zut!" phrase literally means "So, damn!" in English.
  • Heinous Hyena: Sammy, Swiper's Tanzanian counterpart.
  • Instant Costume Change: Dora's clothes magically change in seconds after coming to the next country.
  • Later-Installment Weirdness: Starting this episode, Dora now checks off the places during the "Three Picture Pop-Up" sequence.
  • Late to the Realization: Swiper has been flying around the world swiping bracelets, but he didn't know they were friendship bracelets for Friendship Day, and once Dora reveals the truth, he's in for it.
  • Misplaced Wildlife: While Sammy, Fomkah and Ying Ying (the last of whom is likely a Siberian weasel, given their nativity to Asia) actually live in countries where their real-world species would actually be, Fifi on the other hand, not unlike the Looney Tunes character PepĂ© Le Pew, is a skunk living in France; there are no skunks in France, let alone Europe in general.
  • Power Glows: The bracelets magically glow when a group of friends wears them; once every friend in the world is wearing a bracelet, they make a rainbow light up the sky.
  • Russian Bear: Russia's version of Swiper is a bear named Fomkah.
  • Single-Season Country: Russia is perpetually winter while all the other countries are warm.
  • Smelly Skunk: Averted with Fifi the Skunk. She doesn't stink, they just don't want her to swipe from them.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Tanzania's version of Swiper is spelt "Sammy" in the captions, whereas it is spelt "Sami" in the book.
  • A Taste of Their Own Medicine: With the encounters he has with Fifi, Sammy, Fomkah and Ying Ying (his counterparts around the world), Swiper now knows what it feels like to have someone rob from him.
  • Tempting Fate: After returning the friendship bracelets for Russia, Swiper remarks that nobody tried to swipe them this time, but the sound of Fomkah's rustling immediately proves him wrong.
  • Wicked Weasel: Ying Ying, Swiper's Chinese counterpart.
  • World Tour: Dora and Swiper travel around the world to return the bracelets he accidentally swiped.
