Recap / Dora the Explorer S3 E8 "Meet Diego!"

Go To

Original air date: 10/20/2003 (produced in 2002)note

Dora introduces her cousin Diego to Boots (and the viewers) for the very first time. For their first mission together, Dora, Boots, and Diego must rescue Baby Jaguar from a big waterfall. Along the way, they zip-cord through the rainforest, move like animals, and learn to talk to howler monkeys, snakes, condors, dolphins, and baby bears too! Will they save Baby Jaguar in time? Only with the viewer's help!

Tropes:

  • Ass in a Lion Skin: The vulpine Swiper emerges from the cave in a polar bear suit. His disguise would be effective... if not for the fact that he can't get the real habitat of polar bears right.
  • Bears Are Bad News: At the cave, Boots worries they might encounter any bears. Sure enough, a polar bear pops out; Diego is suspicious at seeing a polar bear in warm terrains like the forest, as they usually live where it's cold. This causes the trio to realize that's not really a polar bear, but Swiper in disguise.
  • Distressed Dude: Baby Jaguar needs help being rescued from a waterfall.
  • Establishing Character Moment: Diego is introduced coming out of nowhere to rescue the baby bear from falling.
  • Help, I'm Stuck!: Baby Jaguar is stuck on top of a waterfall.
  • Inevitable Waterfall: Baby Jaguar gets stuck near one and needs to be rescued from it.
  • Poorly Disguised Pilot: This episode was meant to launch the Go, Diego, Go! series.
  • Race Against the Clock: It's only a matter of time before Baby Jaguar falls off that waterfall.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: The first time where Dora, Boots, and Diego can talk to animals.
  • Spotting the Thread: Diego was quick to identify the polar bear at the cave is really a disguised Swiper because his field journal says they only live in the cold.
  • Super-Speed: Dora, Boots, and Diego use Rocket Star to go faster to make it to the waterfall.
