Recap / Dinotrux S 04 E 06 Gearwigs

Go To

D-Structs and his gang have been raiding the Dinotrux's supplies, so the gang try to find out what exactly it is they are planning.

Tropes:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal:
Ton-Ton: Ton-Ton and the Tools, tearing it up as a team! Take that, Ty!
Waldo: He does know Ty's not here, right?
Revvit: I think he is just making sure to cover every "T" word.
    Ton-Ton: Totally!
  • Batman Gambit: Although his original plan seems to be to infest the garage with Gearwigs by building a container to transport them, once D-Structs realizes Ty has his base tapped, he knows all he has to do is say there are some trux in trouble at the Gearwig cave and Ty's crew will immediately rush in.
  • Bluff the Eavesdropper: After the Dinotrux seem to beat D-Structs to the chase twice, he first tries to Feed the Mole, but once he discovers the Dinotrux's listening device in his lair, he decides to use it against them.
  • Brown Note: Click-Clack discovers he can whirl his bits at a high enough pitch to scare Gearwigs and comes up with a plan to amplify it to defeat an entire swarm of them.
  • Continuity Nod: D-Structs decides to see if the Dinotrux know what he's up to by suggesting they collect tar. The tar pit they show up in is the same tar pit from the first episode, as the bridge they built is still there.
  • Contrived Coincidence: The gang try to play it cool in thwarting D-Structs plan by making it seem like they just happened to be in the area for an unrelated reason, but after a few times in a row, D-Structs isn't buying it.
  • Incredibly Obvious Bug: Even though we are told the listening device is installed in a particularly dark part of the lair, it does not to appear to be any less visible than anything else in the lair, but it still goes unnoticed until attention is specifically drawn to it.
  • Irony: Click-Clack has a plan to disrupt the Gearwigs by creating a loud sound, but he's too shy to speak up and have his idea heard.
  • Legion of Doom: D-Structs' gang are starting to resemble a team, working together to steal parts and even building together.
  • Shrinking Violet: Besides his many other phobias, Click-Clack also has a fear of public speaking. He can't talk loud enough to be heard, and when Ton-Ton tries to help him out, having everyone's attention on him causes Click-Clack to stammer too much to get his point across.
  • The Swarm: Gearwigs are tiny mechanical insects that latch onto Trux hoping to feed off of spare ore. D-Structs' plan is to trap the Dinotrux with a whole swarm of them, which Revvit notes is enough to cause engine failure.
  • Two-Way Tapping: The gang tap D-Structs' lair by building a pair of acoustic mirrors inside and outside. An acoustic mirror works both ways however, and D-Structs is able to overhear the others when they make the mistake of talking too loud near their end.
  • We Need a Distraction: Since the plan to tap D-Structs base relies on getting access to it long enough to build an acoustic mirror inside, the Reptools settle on tricking everyone into thinking Skrap-It disturbed their sleep, causing them to chase him around outside the lair for a while.
